I stayed here at the beginning of an African adventure. This is not in an area with much else going on, but if you want to stay in a peaceful sanctuary, then stay here. It was really lovely. They staff was wonderful. The grounds are calming, the decor is simple yet stylish. I really enjoyed my stay here. Next time... More

My husband and I spent two nights here while visiting Johannesburg and we could not have picked a better hotel. The setting was incredible serene and tranquil, the rooms were comfortable and stylishly decorated, the staff was amazing, the food delicious, and there was the added bonus of getting so much incredible history of Gandhi's time in South Africa on... A real beautifully curated home where Gandhi used to live, it honours his work and peaceful endeavours and is informative about his role in South Africa.

Growing up in India, you think you know all there is to know about the Mahatma and his teachings. However, the Satyagraha house in Joburg gives you an indepth perspective about Gandhi as a man on his way to being the Mahatma. While Natal and Durban have their Gandhi sites, the one in Joburg is where he stayed with Kallenbach... More

Quiet and peaceful is this establishment. The receptionist and all staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed on two occasions for one night each and must say it was delightful. So much history and the little museum is so very interesting

We spent a splendid night in this wonderful hotel with so much culture! It was very interesting to learn more about Gandhi and how he lived in South Africa. Next to that, the room was just beautiful and the stuff extremely nice and helpful. The food is amazing too, just a little salty! We loved it there for sure and... More

A visit to the Satyagraha house revealed facets of Gandhi's life that were hidden from the usual narrative. I did not know that Gandhi had spent more than 20 years in South Africa organizing the struggles of the oppressed. The Satyagraha house tour was given by one of the management responsible for maintaining the house. Time well spent.

We visited this place on 16th May, 2016. Our original plan was to visit Pietermaritzburg to follow the life and times of MK Gandhi in South Africa. Somehow, that plan fell through and we were told that there was a place in Johannesburg where Gandhi lived for a while. This place was very well maintained by a French Company and... More

We had called ahead to reserve lunch and when we arrived the welcome was warming and they started us off with lunch and then finished off with the tour of the place. The lunch is vegetarian and there is no menu. They just prepare a nice dish each day. Surprise menu was good. The lunch cost was R170 each (a... More
