It is not a walk without some effort as it is on the side of Table Top Mountain. One can avoid some of the climbs by walking the contour paths . The conifer plantations are majestic. There are some views over Newlands and further but not the best in the area. There is a huge water cistern for fire fighting (helicopter tank refill etc) that is used as a local swimming pool. …

Newlands Forest is a beautiful place to walk, with easy hikes, suitable for the whole family. It certainly is a great option for children, with mountain streams where they can catch (and release) tadpoles, look out for for toadstools, birds and insects and even spot a forest fairy if they are lucky ;-) Some parts are dog friendly, others great for mountain biking and many parts of the forest have free access.…

This is a place to be to get that needed nature injection of peace and fresh air. It is a very popular place especially over weekends and public holidays, thus parking can be a challenge. Lovely walks that are child and dog friendly. Streams of water and forest setting that makes it hard to believe you still in a very busy city. Stay on the paths as if you don't know the forest then it is easily to get lost and mobile reception can be limited depending where you are. Also best to go with others from a safety point of view. It is open to anyone at no charge 24/7. If you early enough you can go to the Newlands Picnic Area (there is an entry charge) at a separate entrance. You can have a BBQ / picnic.…
