I highly recommend a guide for this tour. That way you know the location of the shooting, where the roadblocks and re-live the moment. Not to be miss if you want to know what happened that fateful day that change the course of history.

Yeah, it is that important. A tragic history I knew nothing about before visiting. Stopped here on our Bicycle tour. Got a short brief on the memorial and surrounding info by a local man our guide knew - his information was well worth the tip we gave him. Definitely could not have understood the significance of the memorial or the... More

Memorial to a young boy who died during the apartheid years. There is a large memorial stone and flowing water around to signify the tears spent. Very moving.

I was riding the bicycle touring Soweto area and encountered this place. I was given the historical information which is quite miserable incident. It was so informative enough to get to know about the people.

We had been to the Apartheid Museum the day before. This memorial, Constitution Hill, the Flame of Democracy, the Supreme Court and Mandela House and more make this even more important. This memorial to Hector a boy is tragic. Hector represents a world.

I had been to the Apartheid Museum in the morning, and seeing this memorial to a young life lost extended the sadness. For me, it was a place to stop and think about the country's painful history while looking out over Soweto. My guide, who is from and still lives in Soweto, told me that Hector's sister, pictured in the... More

Not far from where 13 year old Hector Pieterson was shot by police on June 16, 1976 during a student protest, this memorial pays tribute to those brave young people who were engaged in protest. On that fateful day, which is now recognized as Youth Day, students were engaged in protesting the implementation of Afrikaans and English as dual medium... More

As stated by the other reviewers this is an important memorial. The apartheid struggle for freedom and equality did not spare the children.

A visit to Soweto cannot be done without a visit to the Hector Memorial. It is alive with history and the difficulties that needed to be undertaken to free the oppressed. really enjoyed it.

Nice memorial not far off the Mandela and Tutu homes. Relevant to the history of the struggle. A must
