It is a small but interesting museum capturing the basics of Apartheid in Durban. Small room depicting the austere living conditions in the hostels. What I found interesting was how the townships around Durban was developed.Worth a visit if you are interested in History and...More

You only understand how little you know if you have been to this museum. After the visit I had a better understanding of this region of South Africa.

Surprisingly there is a fee to enter when most other museums in Durban are free. However well worth a visit to understand the structure of racial segregation from a past era. Lots of documents that can be read.

Small place, worth the trip to learn about what happened in Durban towards ending Apartheid. Also an excellent exhibit about HIV/AIDS and TB in South Africa and what is being done and how it is working.

This museum has been around for years, and really provides an interesting and well-curated experience, both for the permanent and temporary exhibitions. Deals with the lived reality of locals under the pass system and racist apartheid laws.

My guidebook prepared me not to expect too much of this museum. Good thing because while it was interesting and worth seeing, it didn't really teach me much that I didn't already know. It was interesting to see how apartheid caused suffering in Durban but...More

I was surprised to find a whole room taken up by HIV education. One member of staff not very helpful and unable to explain the HIV exhibit. Another member of staff found asleep in a lecture room, she was very indignant at being disturbed! From...More
