In the past this was the real Indian quarter. It was a hub of everything Indian. It had great pull in terms of providing the needs of the Indian community in Durban and surroundings. A trip to town was an exciting and interesting family venture....More

We walked around the Indian Quarter in Durban. For the most part, it's reminiscent of any urban downtown area in South Africa. The crowded sidewalks are littered with generic sidewalk shops selling fruits, potatoes or mobile minutes. The patrons are diverse. There is a cool...More

Experience the smell of incense and spices, the haggling Indian and Muslim. It's a place rich with culture and religion and steeped in tradition. A must see for tourists. Don't be shy to smell and taste the great variety of foods.

Though it seems to be changing rapidly, the Indian quarter is a place Indians must go, for it reveals how we did carry what we identify eclectically as 'Indian' to distant lands! There are eating places worth visiting, and people are friendly enough to engage...More

Of all my favourite places in and around Durban, the Indian quarter rates amongst the best! The variety of tearooms and curry houses go well with the myriad number of little shops offering everything from food, spices, incense, prayer goods, curios, souvenirs, fruit, vegetables, beads,...More
