This was a truly one of a kind trip. The tours are all done by local Hopi Indians. I met him in the lobby of the only Restaurant around or near the only motel on the reservation where I stayed. At least that's the way it seemed since I didn't see any others. I met with my guide and got... More

If you are interested in Native American history and spiritual world, take this tour. We saw Petroglyphes, drove around Navajo and Hopi land in Gary's van, visited Oraibi, one of the oldest continually inhabited villages in America, and ended up having a late lunch at the Hopi Cultural Center. What Gary had to say was unique for me. It was... More

don't use the 800 number. It is no longer in service. We met at the second mesa 3:45. We went to the petroglyphs first, then to the Blue Mesa at the end of the day as the full moon and lighting was the best. One needs to be with a native guide to enter these areas. The Hopi's were an... More

You must have a Hopi Guide to visit the village and we had the best! He took us through a wall of petroglyphs and explained the meanings of each of the ancient symbols. It was a moving experience and a privilege to hear about his ancestors.

Hopi guides are local residents. They can and will take you to places you cannot go on your own. We have been guests in a Hopi home while they showed us their kachina carvings to sell. Most "tourists" don't get to do that. The guide is essential.

Margo and I spent 13 nights and 3 full day tours in the homeland of the Native People of the Southwest. Starting with Heard Museum in Phoenix and ending up at the numerous museums in Santa Fe. It included day long tours at both Chaco Canyon, (from the Chief Anthropologist at Salmon Ruins); canyon floor tours at Canyon de Chelly;... More

You are visiting a culture that is 900 years old. Think about it. Feel it. Breathe it. You can see the past while walking in the present. Understand a short journey may lead you into the depths of your own spirit. You'll be rewarded.

Many of the tour guides will take you to visit Hopi artists. Some galleries are owned by the artists and other galleries are owned by merchants who sell the work of local artists. One of our favorite galleries is the Rising Sun Gallery owned by husband/wife (silver artist/basket maker) Weaver and Alberta Selina. We made our first purchase of silver... More
