If you believe you're booking a first class extraordinary train journey you are sorely deluded. As they say in Scotland - the Shosholoza is all fur coats and nae knickers. The train left 2 hours late, kept breaking down. We don't know when it actually arrived into Johannesburg because it took us 30 1/2 hours to get to Kimberly (2/3rd... More

We were excited about our trip from Cape Town to Johannesburg on the Shosholoza Premier Classe train...... we have never been so misled or lied to in our lives. There is nothing remotely accurate in the description on their web site . There was no air conditioning working properly, meals are not as described. The journey was fraught with engine... More

Worst experience ever! We got robbed inside the cabin! Lost almost USD 5000 in belongings, and our passports! Two guys armed with knives jumped into our wagon and into our compartment, threatened us and took our belongings... And the company did absolutely nothing, they took 2 hours to call the police... We did filled a baggage claim form and open... More

Tragic really as I was really looking forward to the journey on Premier Classe. I think do not let the Premier bit deceive you, yes the accommodation and food were quite adequate and good value but it is certainly not Premier! As the train was delayed for 11 hours en-route we ended up with extra costs by having to stay... More

We made this part of our trip to South Africa. As all reviews say South African railways are not like ours and have a few issues but don't let this put you off . Train is priced right , nice welcome from arriving , train is clean and the food is good . The only issues I would say is... More

Well, I always wanted to do a long distance train trip and the Shosholoza Meyl scratched that particular itch. The staff is mostly friendly if you engage them, but it some of them seem very disinterested. At the end of the day you do this to enjoy something different. If you want luxury, rather do Premier class. Aircon didn't always... More

What a disappointment! Our train was delayed from Johannesburg to Cape Town with 5 hours and the same back. There was a heatwave and the air-conditioning wasn't working. Even though the train was delayed the kitchen still closed early with no access to water. This was extremely disappointing!!!

Traveled on Shosholozu Meryl - CapeTown to Johannesburg, anticipated time of arrival 11:25 the next morning. Oh boy! First, arrived at the train station and showed my voucher as I was traveling in a sleeper overnight, not one soul directed me to the right area, until I insisted that I paid a lot for this trip! Room assigned was reasonable... More

I would like to share with you the wonderful train experience in South Africa. I agree with the view point of previous reviews, which stated that this train journey is a beautiful jewel that is not known by many people. When you take a train trip you get to your holiday destination refreshed after a nights rest. You arrive there... More
