We had a beyond wonderful trip of a lifetime. Jean, our agent prepared us well ahead of time by having 3 Microsoft team calls before the trip, to go through the itinerary and what to expect and to allow time for us to process the information and to ask questions. Because things are so different in each culture, we were able to ask her things privately about tipping, water, clothing, cultural norms and other nutritional and hygiene questions that you may be too embarrassed to ask a stranger. I am sure the calls took longer than it should have, but she was patient and was able to hear and understand where I was coming from and was able to address my concerns. The guides and the staff from leopard tours and at sanctuary kusini and camp Oliver were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and we had wonderful conversations. Everyone was careful about masking and maintaining social distance. The accommodations were amongst the best we have experienced as the lodges at sanctuary kusini and camp Oliver were charming, luxurious and cozy and yet, charmingly rustic. The staff at Camp Oliver were so accommodating to prepare special requests meals including roast duck in a chapati wrap for breakfast and hibiscus tea which we loved for every meal. The itinerary we had was well thought of, and we got to experience very different environments. Jean helped request a special guide Harlequin from Leopard tours who was extremely driven and motivated to help us in finding birds and was able and willing to start the day early to catch the birds and was willing to stay out as late as we legally could to catch the sunset in the bush. Similarly our guide at sanctuary Kusini was excellent, he was so helpful to suggest where he could move the vehicle so we could get better angles for lighting and photography. My husband had traveler’s sickness at Ngorongoro but we were well taken care, Harlequin helped us contact a doctor and my husband was given medications and the doctor came and checked on him twice throughout the day. Harlequin was a gem, he stayed in touch to check on us throughout the day and we ended up having a very successful day in spite of the travelers sickness. All in all, we had a very very successful trip. We got to see 4 of the big 5, and saw hundreds of bird species, and lots of mammals.

We planned our Tanzania trip in October 2019. We were scheduled to travel May 2020. Due to Covid our trip was rescheduled to November 2020. Then, due to Covid we rescheduled to March. 2021. Again Covid affected our travel plans. Now we are rescheduled for September 2021. Throughout this process we have been completely pleased with the cooperation, extra work, and caring from the staff at Lion World Travel. We are working with Pat who is wonderful and easy to work with. Pat has kept us informed along the way, immediately responds to our phone calls and emails. She takes extra steps to arrange travel plans for us. We highly recommend Lion World Travel. We are pleased that this company has policies that allowed us to change our travel plans without penalty or undue complications. We are so grateful to be working with a company and staff who clearly cares about their customers. We started this trip through Costco who partners with Lion World Travel for Africa travel. Some of the questions in this review are not applicable at this time because our travel is in the future, but these fields are required to send this review. I will revise this responses after our travel.

Our recent trip to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana was truly a trip of a lifetime! Our itinerary included a perfect mix of experiences - big city (Johannesburg & Cape Town), unique safari camps (Chobe National Park & Moremi Game Reserve), and wonderful scenery - Victoria Falls, Cape of Good Hope & Cape Winelands. We had up close and personal encounters with many amazing animals, learned so much about the history and culture of South Africa, tasted amazing wine and met wonderful people. Our accommodations, tours, guides, and transfers were all outstanding. Our agent at Lion World, John Almeida, did an amazing job of planning our itinerary, answering all our questions and making sure all of our needs and requests were met, always with true professionalism and kindness. We were a group of ten travelers and everyone was extremely pleased with this trip and would highly recommend Lion World for any future travelers.

I will give you the pros and cons of this trip in an effort to help you be better prepared. I am not a negative person. I call it as I see it. The trip was definitely was one of those once of a lifetime trips. We saw so many animals. Our accommodations were outstanding. The safari vehicle offered great viewing opportunities no matter where one sat. However, the air conditioner on our vehicle didn't work. Our driver was punctual and knowledgeable and tried his best to find animals. I was disappointed in the taste of the food. Vegetables were bland and meats were tough. Fruits were bountiful so I concentrated on eating them. Presentation of the food was over the top and breakfast was always the best meal. Box lunches were OK but not great. Another issue was I didn't receive my luggage for three days. Ethiopian Airlines promised to deliver the luggage to me at my hotel by the next morning. Didn't happen. When they did deliver it, they delivered it to Lion Tours in a different location. Lion Tours didn't have drivers going to where we were staying so I had to do without. Be prepared to take dollars for tipping. Tanzania is a poor country and most people looked for ways to do something to get a tip. I am not complaining about this. Just take extra dollar bills. The people need it. I'd rather give a tip than a handout. I was impressed by the number of animals we saw. We were fortunate enough to see part of the great migration which was amazing. We did not need to exchange money. American dollars were accepted everywhere. There was no need to pack a lot of clothes. Laundry services were available and reasonable. Believe it or not, we never saw a mosquito. There was a lot of traveling by vehicle to get to one place or another but I didn't see that as a negative. It gave me a chance to see the countryside. If you opt for the Maaisi tour you will be asked to buy something. Prices are outrageous so don't be afraid to dicker down. I was asked to pay $40 for a small soapstone dish. Saw the same dish in a tourist shop for $4. One final word, roads are awful in the park. I mean awful. I would not recommend this trip for anyone with back problems or someone who can't tolerate jarring. You will be jarred. Count on it. Would I recommend the trip? Absolutely. The positives far outweighs the negatives. Leeann Phayre-Mallo with Lion Travel was outstanding in helping me in every way. She provided the best customer service I have received anywhere. Five stars for her!

Dear Guest, Thank you for the very detailed and helpful review. You've provided many great tips for future safari travelers! I am truly sorry about the luggage delay you experienced, but am happy that you saw so many animals (and no mosquitoes!) Yes, the long, bumpy drives in East Africa can be a challenge for some people. We take every bit of feedback to heart and will continue to work hard in ensuring that each safari delivers the best possible experience from game drives to meals to activities. Thanks again for taking the time to chat about your experience. Happy travels, Leeann Phayre-Mallo, Lion World Travel
