About
Though the beach is still popular, the elegant splendor that once graced this seaside resort community barely shows through the paved-over streets, fast-food eateries and shopping centers.

- CDNMarmaladeEdmonton, Canada143 contributionsIf you want sand and sun, this is the place for a cheap day trip from Cape TownA great destination for a day trip from Cape Town. Sun, surf, clean sand and plenty of bars and restaurants if you need anything or need a break from the heat. The beach is 23km long so walks go on forever. The water is warmer here than on the Atlantic beaches too. You can use the colourful huts to get changed and there are showers to clean up before you leave. You can drive and park here for free, but we took the train, which was cheap and safe. Just make sure you sit with other people.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 7, 2024
- KardoesieSouth Africa4,344 contributionsMagnificent @ MuizenbergThis beach offers gentle waves, warm water (for Cape Town), kilometres of beach for walks and coffee shops for afterwards! Always brimming with especially surfers. Love the bright historical huts. Ideal for a busy beach walk/ swim.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten June 4, 2024

Also better that the big finned neighbours have moved up the coast a bit! Memorable coloured beach huts. A nice family visit.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 13, 2024

We wanted to look at the painted beach huts so took an Uber from Cape Town via the penguins and we stayed around 5 mins !
The beach huts are a disgrace and look like they could fall down. In the next decent wind. It’s such a shame that this has been allowed to happen as there’s nothing else there really.
The area felt very rundown and a bit unsafe.

It is a beach with less cold waters than those in Cape Town, located on the outskirts of the city, on the coast of False Bay. You can pass it on the way to Cape Point, close to Boulders Beach. It is famous for its colorful houses, which were used to exchange clothes and store belongings, especially for surfers. The sport is widely practiced locally, when white sharks are not around. It doesn't have much infrastructure, but it's worth visiting, taking some photos and spending time in the sand.

I have been going to Muizenberg Beach since forever. Never fails to delight. Lots to watch from the beach and then delish restaurants all around.
Quaint streets to explore 10 minutes from the beach below railway line below checkers.
Never a problem to spend a day there. Swimming and chilling, eating and exploring then back to beach for another warm salty swim..
Lots showers and ablutions

If you prefer a sanitized experience go to Clifton beach and mingle with the jet set and tourists.
If rubbing shoulders with locals is more your style and you like the multicultural aspects of Cape Town then you will love Muizemberg.
If surfing in the most family friendly waves is your thing then Muizenberg is a must.
If you prefer the waves to yourself then don’t go to Muizenberg.
If taking a day off from aggression is your aim then Muizenberg is the place to be.
There are emptier beaches and more segregated beaches around Cape Town choose your pulse Muizenberg is crowded and busy for a reason and that’s mostly locals but there is room for the visitors as well.

Beautiful beach, widely used by surfers, but that is relatively dangerous because of the activities of the sharks that circulate there due to the proximity to Isla das Focas, where such predators feed. There is, even, at the top of the slope, on the edge of the road, a shed in which a kind of lifeguard triggers an alarm if he notices some shark moving to the beach down there. The colored houses have nothing too much. Just a place for swimmers to change clothes and store their belongings.

Very extensive beach, with a lot of wind. Its main attraction is the colorful houses, but of all the houses in the area it is one of the least pretty. Any of the beaches in Cape Town or the Cape Peninsula are much prettier.
We decided to stay two blocks from this beach and we ended up always going to the others.
In short, it is to pass by, take photos of the houses, and continue. It is not at all a "must see" as I read in many places

Relative to the other beaches in Cape Town this was pretty underwhelming. The buildings were weathered, and they only took ~30 sec to see. The rest of the beach reminded me of the classic Outer Banks or Great Lakes beach town. Put put courses, waterslides, etc. Good for families, but not what we were expecting.
Tiger’s Milk was delicious and right on the water, but they have other locations in town.
Overall, the beach wasn’t worth the trip out there, but it was worth a stop either going to or coming from Simons Town/the Cape.

Nice beach however the day I visited, it was packed. Took us a while to park and to walk down to the beach only for the wind to get really bad and force us to leave. The beach itself is lovely and the colourful change rooms make this beach stand out from the others

Yes, you can enjoy a picnic at Muizenberg Beach.
There also several fabulous coffee shops and restaurants to enjoy if the weather doesn't permit a picnic.

The other bus company Golden Arrow might go that way. There is always the train but only if you’re adventurous as it is apparently dangerous.

Is it safe to travel from Camps bay to Muizenberg beach with the luggage in the boot of the vehicle, park the car at the beach to take a surfing lesson and then proceed to Somerset West and then to Robertson via R310 and then N2?
Written January 8, 2018
Yes it is but park as close as possible to the beach where there are “car guards” who are reliable.
