This unusual pentagonal shaped castle is worth a brief visit to appreciate the architecture and history. Apart from that, there is nothing much in terms of artefacts or displays that will draw a lot of interest. However, it has good views of Table Mountain and Lion's Hill.

Visited for free with a group attending a conference. Very interesting if you are in to history, as I am. You can wander yourself through the castle and also take an interesting tour. The signage could be better and the food was very average.

A stunning building with a couple of small but interesting museums. Great to just wander around the ramparts and explore the little rooms and passageways. There is a free tour every hour but it goes on for about 45 minutes and is a bit ponderous. I left half way through. There is an interesting cannon demonstration and firing at midday... More

My wife and I visited the Castle, the cost was R30 each. Disappointingly, not all of it could be visited at the time (and there was no reduction in entrance fee!). The military museum was good, telling us about the early history of the Castle. There were also good views from the walls. Well worth visiting for about 60 minutes.

I had a chance to take a quick tour. The history about the Dutch influence and the trading in the 17th century was awesome. Worth a stop.

Could have done with more explanations. There was also an event being planned which took most of the back court - somewhat spoiling the spirit of the castle. Looks like it might also need more maintenance and restoration. There is a big display of porcelains, etc. which although interesting, I feel does not belong in this environment. I have visited... Visited here with friends. I have to say I enjoyed it probably because I got to fire the cannon just after noon. It cost me 100rand ,But hay how many times do you get a chance like that. The tours are free and informative .They do a changing of the guard at around noon and its good

Touring this place was part of my package, I am glad I did. My guide was very well informed and told me all about the history of this fort as well as the city as a whole.

Arriving on a cruise ship - we visited the Castle and enjoyed all its attractions. The very enthusiastic volunteer firing his canon and our amazing guide who despite our relatively short time slot at the castle tried to hang on to us as long as he could - seemingly enjoying imparting his extensive knowledge to us. recommended
