- Patrick M37 contributionsA worth to go to the top of the mountain despite a long line.A five minutes ride to the top of Table Mountain with gorgeous views to look. The cable car has a revolving floor. A really LONG line - about two hours before riding up to the top of the mountain.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten January 8, 2023
- Maggie S33 contributionsEXTREMELY LONG LINE, we used the Fast lane though, gives you a round trip, significantly shorter lineInstead of hiking we opted to take the cable car, but the line was hours long. So we used the fast pass option which was the right choice, a little pricier but it definitely was worth it because it gives you a round trip in the fast lane so we were able to skip both lines. Gets you to the top in around 3 minutes with great views, very fun.Visited December 2022Written January 8, 2023
- Richard NDurbanville, South Africa16 contributionsPoor Restaurant Review!!!!!! (after the upgrade) Huge disappointment! We are very very disappointed by the so called upgrade of the restaurant. Oh my goodness, what a let down and embarrassment for us as Locals. Its like going to any garage shop! City of Cape Town, you can really do better than this. Please make sure the standard of the restaurant drinks and foods is raised from a level 1 to a level 10! I am sure anyone visiting the restaurant wasn't happy at allVisited December 2022Written January 10, 2023
- TravelbugVietnam1,697 contributionsI'm sure it is better at different times of the yearI chose the wrong day to visit. The morning of New Year's Eve. It seemed like every tourist in Cape Town was there. The red hop on/hop off bus was a very convenient way to get to Table Mountain. We had to wait for over 2 hours standing in the hot sun before finally getting the cable car to the top. After a bit of a walk around and taking photos I joined another queue to get the cable car back. The queue was so long and it was so hot that a staff member was handing out blue umbrellas which we returned once near the cable car. I would have liked to have been there at another time of the year.Visited December 2022Written January 23, 2023
- Anne SLeeds, United Kingdom567 contributionsNot to be missedWe prepaid our tickets but we still had to queue for one and a half hours. We had to queue for about 20mins to get down. When we came down the queue appeared to have doubled and they had stopped selling tickets for the day. At the top there were plenty of info boards. The views are amazing and the trails laid out very well. On the day we went there was some mist that kept coming across the summit which made it very atmospheric. The cable car itself had a revolving floor which meant everyone had a good view. Take a lightweight jacket as it can be very cold at the top if the mist rolls in.Visited December 2022Written January 26, 2023
- Ray W190 contributionsOverratedPrice is quite high for a couple of minutes in a cable car - when it is running. Service may be suspended due to high winds or bad weather. Views from the top are much the same as from the road by the cable car station. There is a bar and cafe at the top and a couple of paths to wander around to get different views. Ok to do once and say you have done it.Visited January 2023Written February 5, 2023
- Pad E1 contributionLong queue! Book the Tickets in advanceThe Lifting to Table Mountain is amazing when you have a clear view. Unfortunately, you can't book a student ticket online. So you have to stand in the queue. After the first 45 minutes you have to wait another 1 hour into the Ticket queue to get into the cable car. We were there at 7:45am. I recommend to buy Ticket one the before if the weather will be good.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten February 18, 2023
- Lisa DSouthampton, United Kingdom56 contributionsGreat views over Cape Town and the restaurant at the top is an experiencethe trip up is awesome the views over Cape Town are out of this world, the pod turns so you get to see all the panoramic views. The top is great you can see all over the different sides will lots of places for photo's the model in the middle shows the mountian range. The gift shop is great and I posted my cards from on top of the mountain. The cafe/resturant is great and good value. we were celebrating my husbands birthday and so had a bottle of Champagne and 2 burger and chips for about £14.00 with great views. Definately one experience to tick off the bucket list.Visited May 2022Written February 21, 2023
- Gary SRichmond, Canada60 contributionsWonderful views of Cape TownUnfortunately the lineup was long and slow. After about an hour in the hot sun we were finally at the front of the line. In no more than 15 minutes we were up on Table Mountain with a great view of Cape Town and the surrounding area. We spent approximately an hour’s time on the top before departing downward. Fortunately for us, the table cloth (clouds) wasn’t covering the top! It was a great view in many directions.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten March 1, 2023
- Laura SSalt Lake City, Utah63 contributionsNice ride and good views-can only ride when not windyVery clean and very safe experience! We were here one day and it was very windy. Did not know we needed to look at the website to see if the cars were running so we asked one of the many people who were standing around and they told us that bc of the high winds the cars would not be running the remainder of the day. Would have been nice to see a sign around about the no cars but o well. We came back the next day after checking their not very informative website and saw things would be working. We hiked up the long way (4.5 hours) bc there is only 1 trail that leads to the cable cars and restaurant, etc., We only took the car down but it was very nice. The ground revolves around so all people get nice views all the way down. A little pricey for the 1 way, 5 min ride down but was worth it.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten April 3, 2023

Dont go in the morning …pay attention to the online queue timer , best to go approx 2 to 3 pm.
Once you get to the top the views in all directions are top quality.
Take the time to take the walk the tour including views of Camps Bay, Lions Head and the Cape Town extended area.
Great views but hard work getting to them with the big queues and waiting around.

One of the “required places” to visit is the top of Table Mountain. The view is magnificent. We had a great day after failing the first time because of clouds and poor visibility. The visit was worth the effort to get there

Booked the fast track tickets, which worked both ways so jumped the queues and saved loads of time.
The mountain is a humbling experience and well worth doing for the the eye watering views. The cafe is good value for lunch and beer.
All in all, a fab experience!

This has to be #1 on any visitor to Cape Town's bucket list. We went on a gorgeous sunny day when visibility was good. Top tip is to book before you get there (we booked first thing in the morning when we knew that the weather was going to be good), and get up there for an early morning start, when the weather is (relatively!) cooler and to beat the crowds. We arrived before the cableway had opened, which wasn't a problem as the cafe was open, so we were able to enjoy the view, and watch all the Cape Town fell runners exercising on the mountain, before going to the top.
Being on the first cable car of the day had the added advantage of not being busy at the top of the mountain, so we were able to enjoy the circular walkway in relative quiet. Be sure to take in the views from all sides of the mountain, as you will be able to see both the Atlantic seaboard as well as False Bay, all the mountains stretching down to Cape Point, as well as the mountains to the east and north - and the iconic Lions Head and Robben Island/Table Bay and the Waterfront. This provides a great way of visualising the incredible geography of the Cape peninsular - amazing!

The view is absolutely breathtaking. I don't usually get emotional at views but I did at this one. Photos do not capture the beauty. You really must see it for yourself. The cable car ride is comfortable. The floor rotates to give everyone equal views along the way.

Visited on a sunny day. Excellent views and I enjoyed the ride up and down. A tip for others- pay the small amount for the option of arriving at a certain time. We queued for nearly 2 hours. Was worth it but took a big chunk of the day.

Re Table mountain cable car, how does it work if you just come down in the cable car having walked up?

We took the bus and get off at the gate. Very easy.
I was wondering why the afternoon tickets are cheaper. Is it more likely to be cloudy then? We are visiting Cape town in July

When we visited in December, it was way too hot and sunny in the afternoon and that explained the low footfall and the lower price. I have no idea abt the July weather though

Muchas apologies for only replying now. I only got home last night after 217 days away to Antarctica. Re the Cableway, even if there is a queue the cable cars take quite a lot of people so waiting time is usually not much. However, be aware of wind forecasts, and it often blows on the mountain when down in the city it is calm. While I was away my family and friends went up to view the disas and as the wind had come up they could not take the car down and had to hike instead which is NOT easy on the legs.
Hi,can l buy the ticket today in advance like for 19 September 2020

I would actually advise you to buy it in advance to avoid the queue...
However, in advance could be now but, it can also be a few hours before actually going. We did the latter just a few hours before, through our hotel concierge. We wanted to ensure that we could go up...
As soon as there is wind or other unfavourable weather conditions the cablecar doesn't work.
I have met many people who have been in Capetown for a few days but couldn't go up due to weather.

can I confirm please - If I book tickets for table mountain on my mobile phone do I need to get a print out of the actual ticket or does an e-ticket on the mobile phone work. Reason for asking is that I would like to decide on the day (clear weather hopefully) and being a tourist won't have an easy way to print things off. Thanks for any advise
