We made a quick stop in the Bo-kaap neighborhood to view the colorful homes. There really is not much to see here - just one street with some brightly painted homes. It likely would have been more interesting on a tour where you get details...More

We drove through Bo-Kaap, even at daytime it did not feel safe to park the car and go out for a stroll. There were several hustlers around trying to sell something, trying to tell us that there is something wrong with our car, even though...More

The Bo Kaap is a lovely, colourful area not far from central Cape Town. It was a nice area for a stroll with the vibrant colours on all the houses and businesses. We went earky on sunny Sunday morning and the place was very, very...More

We were glad to see the houses along the street painted in their great colors but after a quick drive through, one doesn't really want to linger long - not much there and the neighborhood can get a bit dicey after sunset.

The rows colorful houses and their history are truly attention-getters! There are small boutiques located in the area as well as the very well-stocked Atlas Spice Shop and Been There coffee shop. Just a short walk away is Long Street and all sorts of shopping...More

A walk through bo-kaap was included in our full-day walking tour. Just behind the colorful facades stands Table Mountain. Quite impressive. A nice slice of Cape Town history and culture.

After years of Apartheid regime when black and brown people were not allowed to wear any colorful dresses, when people got freedom, they painted the neighborhood in many colors to express their joy at freedom to wear colors once again

The question is dated some time ago so I hope it is still relevant. I would do a cooking course in the bo-kaap in the kitchen of one of the local ladies. Great fun and you can sample the results. More information on... More
