About
The Oranjezicht City Farm (OZCF) Market at Granger Bay at the V&A Waterfront is held every Saturday from 08.15 to 2pm and every Sunday from 9am to 3pm. At the Market customers can do grocery shopping (veg, fruit, bread, organic dairy, free-range eggs, honey, muesli, etc), enjoy delicious cooked and raw foods and be inspired about helping to build an alternative food system. The Market is a source of genuinely exceptional local produce; food that is fresh, healthy, seasonal and that builds and that strengthens local economies. However the market is more than just a place to buy food – it’s a place where people come to connect, to share food and awaken their senses. The market is a participant in the wider debates around what we eat and where it comes from; a place where food is talked about almost as enthusiastically as it is consumed. Plants and flowers, vintage collectables, and a small section of clothing is also available.

What a wonderful time! The food was just perfect and varied...literally anything you could think of from around the world all made by hand for you.
Real nice shops and booths to buy great things.
Come for breakfast and then shop finally returning for lunch!

Very nice, small roofed out-door market (Sat+Sun) at the Waterfront. Great options for buying fresh groceries, yummy bread or to eat on-site at the little foodstands. Also option to buy plants or souveniers. We really enjoyed this weekend market during our stay in CT.

The history of the land which today is the Oranjezicht City Farm dates back to the early 1700s when it was a farm and a place to gather to buy fresh produce. Those in the know will be aware of Cape Town's historic importance as a replenishment station for ships passing through from Europe, needing fresh vegetables and water which they would get at the Cape before proceeding onto the middle and far East on their long voyage. The Oranjezicht City Farm is a modern take on the same idea, its an urban farm established under the same old oak trees, where fresh fruit and vegetables are now grown, and sold yet again. The water rushing past, but under ground, is from the same springs used to replenish the ships.
The vegetable farm, but more like a large garden in size, was established in November 2012 and used to be an abandoned bowling green. The green needed constant mowing and watering yet nobody used it. Today its a beautifully styled and productive fruit and vegetable garden that attracts locals back to a place of historic importance, a place to gather or relax whilst admiring the imposing Table Mountain right there.
This beautiful garden is open during the day for visitors to pop by - there are gardeners working all day. There are benches to sit on and pathways to wander along. Its safe and positioned at the top of Upper Orange Street, Oranjezicht, alongside Homestead Park, just a straight hike up the hill (and left) from the Company Gardens. Its a great place to enjoy the views - one way is straight up towards Table Mountain, the other way is across the city. This is a stunning place to visit.
On Saturday mornings a farmer's market is on the go from around 9am - fresh, organic produce (much is grown on the urban farm) and other delicious, wholesome eats can be bought along with flowers and little potted herbs. I have noted great kids activities such as story reading, crafts even kids yoga! The farm has a kids play area nearby with jungle gyms, a roundabout and a slide. Its fenced off and safe.
Visiting the morning market is a great way to spend a Saturday morning in Cape Town or a visit to the farm a great weekday outing if you're looking for a quiet getaway but don't want to leave the city. The area can be windy, so dress warmly if the south easter is blowing which you will be able to identify by the "table cloth" flowing over the mountain. This little urban farm in Cape Town is beautiful and inspirational and unique. Go and see it for yourselves.

I would rate this as the best market in the Cape. Every Saturday. Sunday and also on a Wednesday evening. Lovely kid and dog friendly market. All delicious places to have something fresh to eat. Love the fresh fruit;vegetables and herbs. Cheese, honey, fresh breads, lots of vegan options also.Nice to take with your own shopping bag. Full of vibe. Also lovely fresh flowers. A real treat even if you just want to watch people.

The Market Is Different than the Farm - Most of the reviews are for the Saturday Market Not the Farm
Sept 2017 • Family
The Oranjezicht City Farm Market is different than the The Oranjezicht City Farm and should have a separate listing
The Market is on the ocean on Granger Bay Blvd. a few minutes walk from the V&A Waterfront.
The Market is only open on Saturdays from 9-2. It is a fantastic place to have breakfast or lunch or buy fresh meats, produce and other items. There are an immense number of stalls with wonderful options to eat there or take home. If you are around on a Saturday it is really a must go.
