The well-known Elephant Walk at Diepwalle starts and ends at the Diepwalle Forest Station, the "Mecca" of the Knysna forests. The walk offers a number of route options (7km, 8km & 9km). The area is regularly visited by the Knysna elephants but the chance of sighting of these animals is very slight. Currently there are only one elephant left in the forest. The trails are open between 6h00 and 18h00

Elephants very well looked after and obviously enjoyed their life here. To touch an Elephant let alone walk with one was incredible. The knowledge of the guide was fantastic and to experience the connection of the Elephant and the ranger was heart warming.

We did the red elephant walk and enjoyed it. It's only 7km, but still took us over two and a half hours. It's quite steep in places. We didn't really see much wildlife - never mind elephants! - but still enjoyed the walk.

Needed to burn off calories and did the 9 km walk, permit cost 20 rand (£1.20). Followed elephant markers. Took a lot longer than anticipated so allow 3-4 hours and take food and water. The famous big tree is jus that ie a big tree. Saw velvet monkeys and a few birds. Lots of excellent plants, insects and fungi.

Your chance to see some of the little remaining of South Africa's subtropical forest. You are unlikely to see an elephant, but you will be ancient giant Yellowwood trees, We saw many beautiful plants, including many types of ferns and mushrooms. There were birds, millipedes, frogs, etc. Visited Sept 2011.

A bit out of the way. Good selection of farm produce with home made jams etc but were a bit pricy. Lunch in the restaurant was good although service lacked smiles and was on the slow side. Food ok but again rather expensive for for what was on offer. Wheelchair friendly though there are some areas which may pose a... More

We had a great time hiking the 7km White Elephant Walk. The trail itself was pretty well maintained, with only a few downed branches to sneak around/over. It was totally isolated and beautiful - we didn't see a single other person on the trail the entire time we were out there, and loved the isolation and natural beauty. Don't expect... More

We were lucky enough to have our own guided tour just my friend and I. The guides were so helpful we learnt a lot about elephants, had a personal photographer and had a wonderful walk with the elephants. Highly recommended.

did the morning walk last month and loved it. Riding on the elephants out to their feeding grounds and then just spending some time hanging out with them and feeding them, was a very special experience, since they really are gentle giants. A must-do :-)

We so enjoyed this as a family experience & woudl definitely recommend it to familes and couples alike. To be this up clos eand personal to these amazing creatures for more than an hour, is not only educational but also so humbling and tranquil! If we visited Kynsna again we woudl probably do it again as our children just loved... More
