Excellent and very interesting museum consisting of 4 historical houses all within a short distance of each other. You visit them in historical sequence, oldest first. You are met by a lady in the costume of the time and given an interesting narrative of the people who lived there and a bit about the period. Fascinating.

Its a while since we visited so I am just recounting my previous experience. It was very enlightening as to the past of this beautiful town. It has so much to offer to those who enjoy historical locations. Your calendar only goes back to 2016, we visited earlier than that, however I am ticking 2016 as being a museum I... More

The first house Tannie Seronie Swartz, was by far the most knowledgeable and friendliest person we met on our journey. She loves and respects was she does. The whole experience was beyond expectation.

The museum consists of four houses which are set for different periods of Dutch life in Stellenbosch. The first is dated at 1709 and the last approximately 1850. Each house has a guide explaining about the period and the former owner. There are many period pieces and you allowed to wander in each of the house. Combined with nice grounds... More

I think it's nice that there are ladies in each house to help you and that almost everything is how it used to be. Seeing the difference between each house and the people that owned them is also very interesting.

A lovely touch was having a period-costumed guide in each house, the first of whom had been there for over 20 years and who was passionate about "her" house. So much of interest to take in - a really enjoyable interlude.

This is such a good little museum, and so interesting for me to be able to find my maternal grandmothers name mentioned as one of the first settlers

The village museum is a really interesting slice of history and it is important to watch the film in reception to understand how the town was founded, grew and is what it is today. The buildings are scattered across several streets with steps etc., so if walking is a problem do take care. The houses were well furnished and set... More

This nugget is well worth a visit as the museum is actually a series of original or near original houses some of which date back to the 1700. It is a hands on and feel museum, helped by the informative ladies in their period costume who welcome you into each building. Although we have been coming to Stellenbosch for many... More
