I really liked Castelo de Vide! The old quarter with its narrow cobbled streets, the castle, numerous old churches, synagogue museum, fountains and a lot of cafés and restaurants. The town (city) is not very big and everything is within walking distance. The main square, Praça Dom Pedro V, is a good location to find accommodation and in the centre of that square is the town's tourist office. One usually associates a city centre as being the central business district, full of shops of various kinds. Castelo de Vide though is not the kind of town one visits to go shopping, but rather to relax, enjoy some historical sights and to use as a base for exploring the region. Highly recommended.

the city center of Castelo de Vide is very clean, the stores and coffee places are all welcoming to sit and enjoy the view of the building around the square on one side of the Municipal Palace as well as on the other side....it is a very quaint little town, worth visiting.

This is a vibrant city centre with cafes, small shops and some well tended gardens. Lovely to walk in, but very tough for cars. When we were there, the town had closed off the only approach to hold a medieval fair.

We visited the old castle following a street on the top of the mountain from the church São Roque on the other side of town; a wonderful stroll through medieval architecture, towers, fortifications that ended with lunch on a restaurant terrace on the town square. Spend easily 3-4 hours as flaneur. Good with kids, and stroller
