With help from my friends at the Albergaria do Calvario in Evora, I planned a day trip to visit Castelo de Vide and Marvao in the north of the Alentejo. It was an easy 2 hour drive and well worth the effort. The roads are...More

We were on the way from Spain to Portugal and would stay overnight in Castelo de Vide. We were real surprised over the people there. After the cheerful hospitable people we met in Spain, they were in Castelo completely nonchalant. When we got to the...More

We visited the old castle following a street on the top of the mountain from the church São Roque on the other side of town; a wonderful stroll through medieval architecture, towers, fortifications that ended with lunch on a restaurant terrace on the town square....More

Nice small little town that we stopped in for a lunch - windy day. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here unless you want to see a town that doesn't get alot of tourists.

They are in the face lifting process of the city center. Modern and old hand in hand in the main square. Nice! Beautiful old fountain. Facades of the buildings almost all redone. Plenty of parking space.

Another small Portuguese town with cobbled narrow windy streets. Quite lovely. Definitely visit if you're in the area.

There is actually quite a bit to see in this small town. We didn't really plan enough time to see it all. There are interesting churches, pretty parks and plazas and nice shops and restaurants as well as the old castle area and old Jewish...More

A very nice small town in Portugal close to the border with Spain, very well taken care of. Everything is accessible at walking distance. The inheritance from the Jewish community is still well preserved.

A typical Portuguese small town/village with a lovely square and cobbled streets. Be aware that most restaurants are closed on a Monday evening - check first.

The center of this small town exudes a feeling of calm and unhurriedness. We saw few tourists, but many locals sitting in the outdoor cafes. A pleasant place to have a beer and watch life slowly pass by.

We stopped here for some delicious pastry in the Jewish quarter. Were told this town has quite a history of Jewish people. It is charming, unspoiled, clean. There were quaint little shops with homemade items, along with many small cafes and pastelarias. The town square...More

Castelo de Vide is a lovely small Portuguese country town largely unspoiled by tourism. The centre square and surrounds have lots of cafes and restaurants.
