Immersed in the sound of honking horns and the footsteps of busy office workers, the Microcentro area of San Nicolás is where visitors will encounter the true hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires, walking down streets lined with office buildings and banks. The financial district is well-known for its vibrant atmosphere and unstoppable rhythm during office hours. After dark, the hubbub and migrates to Corrientes Ave., where theatre lovers might start their evening at a play and end it in one of the many traditional pizzerias nearby. During the day, Corrientes is known for its many bookshops and classic cafés, which are located just minutes away from some famous landmarks, like the Obelisco, Avenida 9 de Julio, and the Teatro Colon.

Possibly due to it being an overcast day, this park doesn’t seem so exciting. The main attraction is the Torre Monumental, located in the centre of the square. On sunny hot days, I typically see lots of people lying on the grass or using the park as a place to have a relaxing lunch.

The Argentine Air Force Square is located in the Retiro district, . Originally referred to as Plaza Britannia was renamed to the current name after the Falklands War, paying homage to the Argentinean Air force. However, many still refer to it with its old name, and more commonly Plaza de los Ingleses or British square.
It is surrounded by the streets of San Martín and Av. del Libertador. There is the monumental tower (former English tower) with British Royal Coat of Arms. The National Congress in September 18th 1909 accepted the offer from British residents to erect a monumental column, on the occasion of the centenary of the revolution of May.
Almost all the building material (cement, Portland stones and Leicester-type bricks) was brought from England. The technical team in charge of the construction was also from England
The inauguration was held on May 24th, 1916.

Plaza Fuerza Aerea Argentina is the middle park in a string of parks near Estacion Retiro, Buenos Aires’ main train station, the others being Plaza San Martin (which features the San Martin Monument) and Plaza Canada (home to a totem pole and lots of homeless people).

The grounds and gardens are expansive and attractive, but the star attraction here is Torre Monumental, a clock tower (which I’m reviewing separately).

The history associated with this plaza is fascinating. The English gave the big clock tower to Buenos Aires to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Argentina’s May Revolution of 1810. The tower was known as Torre de los Ingleses (Tower of the English) and the square was known as Plaza Britannica. After the 1982 Falklands (Malvinas) War between Argentina and Britain, the tower became Torre Monumental (Monumental Tower) and the square became Plaza Fuerza Aerea Argentina (Argentine Air Force Plaza)!

Not sure it's worth a specific stop ? Plus it's proximity to bus and train stations give it a different clientele. Grab a pick while passing.

This is a beautiful park. On warm sunny days, there are lots of people lying on the ground, tanning. It is nicely treed on the perimeter, has nicely maintained gardens on the interior, many benches for sitting, and as its centrepiece there is a 75.5-metre high clock tower which was bestowed on the City of Buenos Aires.

The park is across the street from the Sheraton Buenos Aires hotel, and adjacent to Plaza Libertador Gral. San Martin. Unlike the latter which partially runs up a hill, Plaza Fuerza Aérea Argentina is a nice flat park. This is one of the smaller parks in Buenos Aires, but combined with the adjacent park, it makes for a nice long walk through the two parks.

Being across from the Sheraton Buenos Aires, I go there once a day to feed the birds, being mostly pigeons and wild green parrots.
