The government’s executive branch is housed in this building, a strange mix of various architectural styles, perhaps best known for the balcony from which Evita rallied the working class crowds.

Not really a pretty or architecturally interesting landmark, but still an iconic place to see and visit when in BA. A lot of protests occur in front of this building, so be prepared that there could be barriers or a fence erected on some days. Do some research before you visit and you will feel a sense of nostalgia and... More

We were lucky to go on a public holiday so there was little traffic and few crowds. Set in a good spot in the centre of the city. Close to city hall and cathedral so gives a good perspective of Argentinian life. There were protesters and the las Malvinas memorial. It's well policed which cuts the harassment by beggars and... This was the first place we wanted to see in Buenos Aires because of its association with Eva Peron. it stands at one end of the Plaza de Mayo and dominates with its unusual colouring. We would have liked to visit inside but, although there are tours, they were not available at that time.

Famous presidential palace and balcony where Eva/Evita Peron spoke before she died. It's in a complex with the park in the front and within walking distance to a few other historic building and monuments. Sometimes, there might be chainlink fence, but you can walk around to the other side and get closer

This "White house" of Argentina was painted this color due to a mistake during construction. It's interesting to see all the protesters around, definitely a place to visit while in BA.

Given today's emphasis on security, reservations must be booked in advance online for the one hour tour (in English Saturdays, Sundays and holidays at 12.30 and 2.30 p.m.) and you MUST bring your passport and your reservation ticket. Book online by searching for Casa Rosada because TripAdvisor does not allow links. The building is lovely, the view over the square... More

Of course you can't miss this- it's bright pink! This is one of the highlights of BA. The house is open for tours on holidays and on some weekend days. Unfortunately I did not know that and missed my chance to go inside. It is normally barricaded off with large black grate fencing- covered in graffiti. There are many protests... More

Casa Rosada is executive office of the president. It's pink colour is iconic and it at the end of plaza de mayo. Looks like a palace. Visited on a Sunday and there were a lot of police close by with barriers just incase of impromptu public protest. There are free tours on the weekend. So you can stand on the... More

Staying in Montserrat

Neighbourhood Profile
Montserrat
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
