Neighbourhood: Palermo
Best known as the largest neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, Palermo is divided into different quarters, each with its own unique identity. The high-end quarter is Palermo Chico, characterized by magnificent mansions, regal avenues, and exclusive apartment buildings, and home to the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA), a favourite amongst locals. The largest park in the city, the Bosques de Palermo, is Palermo's most famous landmark and a popular destination for nature walks, picnics, rollerblading, and cycling. The scene becomes much trendier in Palermo Soho, a hip area known for its cool cafés and unique design stores, filled with shoppers on weekends; and Palermo Hollywood, renowned for the numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs, which make it the preferred spot for nights out and special occasions.

- Ines MPembroke Pines, Florida127 contributionsCute Museum… Has something for everyoneI loved this museum. It had some very interesting g art work that really made you think. Take the time to read the writing on the walls. They explain one art work and once you understand where the artist came from you see the piece from a whole new world. The museum had a section on Frida Kahlo which details about about her life. It’s a great place if you need something quick but also indoors to get away from the heat or the cold.Visited February 2023Travelled on businessWritten February 10, 2023
- lisabebe11116 contributionsMALBAThis was such a joy to visit. I loved the permanent collection. There was a special collection that featured mid-century household items. Many of the items were from the 80s, and before fun to see things I would have played with in a museum. I also loved seeing how media from the Falkland War was presented here.Visited April 2023Written April 8, 2023
- Compass8139184 contributionsModern Latin American Art: social statements and objects exhibitThe top (2) floor is an objects exhibit with a collection of chairs, old fridges, and a mounted helicopter. The main floor (1) had a Frida Kahlo exhibit with her self- portraits A. Parrot andMonkey and B. With Diego and third eye. It had a lot of art regarding gender and sexuality. Some of which I found disturbing to be honest- such as a postcard with instructions on how to make love to animals, other women, boys, etc. The basement had a smaller exhibit of temporary collection. It was 1600 pesos for adults and 800 for students. They also had a cafe/ restaurant on the main level. The second floor has a QR code for an audio guide on SoundCloud.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten July 17, 2023
- kaet7973 contributionsGreat galleryMy ten year old and I really loved this museum and the introduction it gave us to Latin American art. The exhibition "From Heaven to Home' on everyday Argentian household items (artist interpretations) was really interesting. We appreciated one of the guides explaining some of the works to us. The permanent collection has some great pieces. We missed the Frida exhibit due to the long line unfortunately. Recommend buying tickets online and skipping the que to purchase. We spent about 1.5 hrs looking at everything.Visited July 2023Written July 24, 2023

The museum is in a chic neighborhood of Buenos Aires with some beautiful homes, so we enjoyed the walk. The museum was great! We spent about 3 hours exploring its permanent collection and special exhibition. The museum’s design is lovely, and the museum is of a size that allows one to fully explore the collection without getting overwhelmed. The permanent collection featured many compelling paintings and sculptures from Latin American artists, and it gave me a new appreciation for how various contemporary art movements were expressed by artists from the region. The gallery was thoughtfully curated, and the English descriptions in the galleries were helpful for understanding the curation and context for the art. As is often true with art, exploring the art gave one a better sense of the region’s history and, in particular, of struggles faced by various populations. The special exhibition was also well-assembled and featured some quite humorous pop art. The gift shop had some really nice post cards. And the cafe, on the second floor, was a nice place to have a coffee and sweet treat as we transitioned from viewing the permanent collection to seeing the special exhibition. I’d definitely put this on your “must do” list for Buenos Aires if you enjoy art; we had a great visit, easily worth the price of admission.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 2, 2023

It is quite an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, etc. It can get the felling that it is a bit busy and not that well organized the different art collects.

Lovely Museum that had art from all over Latin America . There a very nice display of Cuban art. Which is kind of cool if you are coming from the United States. Lastly, some their is art is from outside of Latin America.

A nicely arranged group of exhibitions with diversified content for various audiences. There were no antiquities but that is ok, just to have more modern art. The Frida section was very small but the other exhibits were more than adequate sized.

Melhor verificar na mídia se o quadro foi emprestado. O Museu é espetacular apenas senti muita falta de outros grandes artistas brasileiros.

Yes, but I agree that in Argentina having cash is better; but note... be very careful where you get cash and be very careful wherever you are.

Acredito que esteja aberto, visitei numa quinta, mas às quartas, os museus são de graça em Buenos Aires, fui ao Museu de Belas Artes, que é pertinho, numa quarta, e não paguei nada, vale fazer a dobradinha.
