The area
Neighbourhood: Puerto Madero
From its refurbished red brick buildings and port cranes to its modern skyscrapers and luxurious apartment buildings, Puerto Madero is the perfect combination of old and new. The river provides a quiet, relaxing atmosphere that contrasts with the hustle and bustle of heavy traffic just blocks away. Across the river, flanked by skyscrapers, are beautiful parks and quiet streets that make this neighbourhood a unique destination in a city as busy as Buenos Aires. The restaurants, bars, and nightclubs on the docks make it a prime spot for nights out and have come to symbolise this area. Puerto Madero is even more striking after dark, when the lights from the docks and skyscrapers glow against the night sky.

Á magnificent piece of sculpture made by a female Sculptor at the beginning of the XXth century. It is erected in the Avenida Costanera Sur, at the side of the Rio de la Plata.
The date is theoretical, as I used to go there in my childhood every Sunday in my grandfather's great Buick (with Chauffeur), I pay á visit to the Fountain every time I visit Buenos Aires.

It was made by a woman, Lola Mora, in times when only men were sculptures, she had very difficult times for this reaseons. It is amazing!

Lovely statue situated near the river, off the beaten tourist track. Protected on all sides by a glass screen it makes taking photos problematic but never the less well worth the visit. If you take the hop on hop off bus it is close to one of the stops - check the map. A walk along the river path is well worth while, with statues as a tribute to Argentinian athletes.

Fantastic sculpture that is enclosed in plastic screens due to vandalism

Reminded me of the Trevi Fountain in Rome when it was being renovated, such a shame

La Fuente de las Nereidasis a beautiful fountain that depicts the mythical story of the birth of the Greek goddess Venus, who sits naked atop a seashell while nereids (sea nymphs) and tritons dance around her. The statue created a scandal when it was first unveiled in 1903 by the Argentine sculptress Lola Mora. When the white marble sculpture was unveiled in 1903, people were horrified by the display of female nudity, and the fact that it was made by a woman only added to the controversy. Definitely worth stopping to see as it is one of the most beautiful fountains in Buenos Aires.

Found this fabulous marble fountain after completing the ecological walk near the Puerto Madero area. Protected by a clear screen it is still a delight to see. Not on a tourist track so you would have to go looking for it.

Beautiful sculpture of Nereida, sea nymphs who often accompany Poseidon, a god of sea from Greek mythology. Nice to see and enjoy a view.
