Really beautiful plaza surrounded by lovely restaurants and museums. It's a great place to come to start sightseeing in Salta.

South American and particularly Argentina is renowned for its beautiful squares. This however is next level.
All of us visited several times and just chilled out through out our stay.

At this square you can enjoy of a nice park and some of the most important spots of Salta: Museo Arqueológico de Alta Montaña with the mummies of the children, the best preserved City Council of the country from the colonial period and the Cathedral. Moreover Alberdi Street, a pedestrian and comercial street starts at the square.

It is THE square in the city! It contains and is surrounded by cafes, restaurants and souvenier shops! Great place to sit on a bench and people watch!

Lovely town center and square. Plaza 9 de Julio could use some TLC as it looks dated. Several men were chasing us to get our shoes polished, there is a lot of poverty in and around Salta. Do not eat the oranges on the trees in the central square, they are extremely sour.

This is a lovely colonial square with the cathedral and many restaurants as well as the MAAM where the mummies are. We didn't try any of the restaurants so cannot comment. We were there on International Women's Day and there was a march going on. One of the marchers gave my wife a IWD brooch; that's the kind of place it is.

Place to see if you are in to history, small and interesting museum at one end. Church on the other, must to look at history of this town. Not sure if this happen every Saturday, but I was lucky to see a Millonga dancing around 10pm on Saturday. Locals dancing the night away. Real feeling of Argentina, nothing fake, real thing: jeans, dogs, high heels, cigarettes. Brilliant, MUST SEE

You cannot miss this park, as you will visit the Cathedral or one of the museums closeby. Nice to see local dancers doing their thing, unfortunately too many informal sellers.

We were surprised by the wealth of dancing and music being performed in the morning. There were about ten different acts of varying talent with the hat being passed to collect offerings.

We visited the Plaza 9 de Julio when we were in Salta. It has some beautiful historic buildings and lots of interesting shops and restaurants. Just off the Plaza are walkable streets without car traffic and more shops and restaurants. A really enjoyable way to spend a sunny day in Salta. We would definitely recommend visiting the Plaza 9 de Julio when in Salta.
