Great side trip on our drive to Hornopiren before taking ferry. Lots of trails depending on your time and stamina, we did a 4 km (each way) into beautiful falls along a good trail. Quite flat except for a staircase at the end up to the head of the falls. Also some really interesting huge trees along the path. Parking and washrooms at the start and halfway along the route. Need cash to enter (6000 CHP per) since no signal for credit cards. NOTE, road in is only 7 km, a bit rough in a couple spots but most good. We did not have 4wd, but take it easy in these spots.

We came here as a day trip and took the boat ride across the Lake Menendez to Lake Cisne (swan). It's extremely pretty and perfect for photographers. The highlight is seeing one of the oldest living species in the world - the Alcarce Tree!

Spent a morning in the park at the beginning of October, there are spectacular mountain views and beautiful lakes. We walked for about an hour in the forest just listening to the sound of birds singing, a great place to get back to nature.

We wished there was more information about transport - buses from Esquel only run on Wednesday’s and weekends, one a day leaving at 8am and returning late. We were not keen to rent a car and despite what the lonely planet says it is hard to find a company that runs tours to the National Park from Esquel. So we have missed this Park. I have attached the bus timetable. Hope others have better luck than us.

Spent a day walking in the park but it is HUGE, so you definitely need a guide! We had the benefits of a local guide who planned a comfortable circular walk with stunning views and good surfaces. Good facilities with clean toilets and convenient picnic tables. A great day

Just had a short drive round but would certainly liked more time there. The beach at the top of the lake is well supplied with barbecues.

This is a beautiful national park. There are lots of trails and hikes ranging from easy, medium to difficult. There are lots of camping sites and just a few lodges located in the park. It does take some driving time to go from the south end to the north end of the park for certain hikes. we did not take any of the boat rides. We had a great hike up to Lago Escondidia. We also hired a fishing guide for a day and had a superb fly fishing experience arranged by El Aura Lodge. The visitor center has good maps and can advise one on hikes. Some of the trails are closed due to recent forest fire but there are plenty of other trails opened.

Los Alerces is one of the most pristine parks in Argentina. Only one road borders the outer lakes, and the interior can only be reached by foot or boat. With practically no sources of contamination of its crystal-clear waters and little commercial activity allowed within its limits, its an ideal place for nature lovers. Many people visit and camp in the vehicle-accessible outer zone, especially in January and February, so if it's solitude you are looking for come in the months before or after the season.

It was a cold drizzly day, early spring. We took our little rental car up there from Esquel. Took about 40 min to reach park. The scenery is spectacular as you expect for this part of the world. Too cold to fish, swim or picnic so we drove all thru the park and did little walks. This place would be amazing in high summer (and probably busy with all the accommodation available). I would definitely like to come back then to check it out. But for a half day adventure out of Esquel it was good fun. We drove the long way home through the national park. Added two hours to trip on dirt road (mostly graded) but many scenic highlights

This National Park has plenty of beautiful lakes, rare birds and other animals, an impressive forest. You will see even a glacier just in front of you.
