If you did like us, come off a cruise ship and decided to do your own thing, then a walk along the promenade is most likely what you will end up doing. We walked for around 6 miles, taking in a number of sights along the way. You can on occasions walk toward the water and there are some good photo opportunities. I am not sure the extent to which this could be called an historic area, but there are a few statues drawing your attention to Welsh settlers and a small museum.

There’s a small museum which traces the history of the Welsh settlers who sailed from Liverpool. You can wander around the headland and see what remains of their early cave homes. Worth a visit and a walk along the coast since there isn’t a great deal to do in town.

It's not a well known fact that a group of Welsh landed there in 19th century. They cooperated with local people so you can see a Welsh flag and a monument to commemorate it as well as caves they used to live in.

We were on a cruise and had the advantage of seeing so mush of the Chilean coast and all of it was spectacular. Puerto Madryn and a more modern city and you can take side tours from there. There is also opportunity to see penguins.
