Despite it is not a too elder building, less than 100 years, it is the image of Bariloche City, and it deserves a visit and some pics too. The Bariloche main street (Calle Mitre) begins in this square. There you will find many restaurants and stores.

Centro Civico is the heart of Bariloche. It's a large square where people gather for festivals and political events. Surrounded by attractive grey stone building with golden cypress wood trim. Looks like a Swiss alpine village. The City Hall Clock Tower is the main symbol of the town. Be sure to check out the Museo de la Patagonia.

This place is beautiful, you can take good pictures and walk around buying chocolates. There are some graffiti on the building which is sad.

San Carlos de Bariloche has a very small city center, and we thought it was worth a visit based on the pictures. It is basically a Bavarian or Swiss village wannabe, with zero personality or warmth. It may be more charming during the winter or during a festival but, otherwise, it’s just a waste of time.

The civic center has a very informative Tourist office, an interesting museum that take you back in time. Nice shopping for wool sweaters, a lot of chocolate and mixed restaurants all around.

The locals hangout at the plaza in the evening. Very nice atmosphere. We enjoy walking around the center.

Beautiful and quaint town square. Fun spot to see the lake, mountains, and people watch. Shopping is just west.

The Centro Civico is a small square - not much to behold. However I would go again and again for the sole purpose of cuddling more St Bernard puppies. Photographers bring them to the square and people pay to have their pictures taken with them (and grown up ones too) but you can cuddle them in between photos when they sleep on a bench.

Follow Mitre street west and it will lead you to the Large arches that lead into the Square. On the upper part is their ‘City Hall’ next door the major Tourist Building, the local police and next the open Lake side of the square. Unlike our last visit the Square has since been visited by The Mothers Of Lost Children who have painted their White Bandana symbol throughout the Square.. a dark part of the country’s history. Adjacent to the square and above it are many tent and open craft booths. Worthy of a visit.

In the area around the Civic Center, the buildings are wooden, and there are arches for the streets. It’s a beautiful area, great for walking. There also is a St. Bernard, they would like you to take pictures with the dog.
