Centro Civico is the heart of Bariloche. It's a large square where people gather for festivals and political events. Surrounded by attractive grey stone building with golden cypress wood trim. Looks like a Swiss alpine village. The City Hall Clock Tower is the main symbol of the town. Be sure to check out the Museo de la Patagonia.

The place looks and feels very European. I can only imagine the town being covered with snow during the winter. I loved how lively and vibrant the atmosphere was. I just regret that the weather wasn’t really pleasant so I wasn’t able to do some adventure sports.

This place is beautiful, you can take good pictures and walk around buying chocolates. There are some graffiti on the building which is sad.

Follow Mitre street west and it will lead you to the Large arches that lead into the Square. On the upper part is their ‘City Hall’ next door the major Tourist Building, the local police and next the open Lake side of the square. Unlike our last visit the Square has since been visited by The Mothers Of Lost Children who have painted their White Bandana symbol throughout the Square.. a dark part of the country’s history. Adjacent to the square and above it are many tent and open craft booths. Worthy of a visit.

It's true there is a lot of German influences in Bariloche. There were surges in immigration following both WWI and WWII.Outside the traditional ski lodge constructed area there is a great artesan stand grouping, through the arches under the museum the town has a real variety of stores and other service industries and shops. This week has turned warm and lots of people are now out enjoying the warmth and lack of wind. We loved it.
