You can take the bus “transturistico” in Duitama bus terminal or any other bus that has that route. Confirm with them if they can drop you off in the monument “Pantano de Vargas”. And in the monument every 30 min aprox you can take the bus to Paipa which is just minutes away. En la terminal de duitama puedes tomar un bus que te deja en el monumento. Alli mismo pasan cada 30 minutos aprox los buses que te llevan a Paipa.

In this place you can learn a lot about our history in Colombia, more specifically how these brave young guys fought against heavily armed soldiers and won! Master Betancourt beautifully sculpted this huge monument and you can see amazing details and you get to see why they fought smarter and not harder, as you can see in the photos, they were naked so that their clothes wouldn’t be so heavy that they couldn’t get out of the damp. Let it be clear that in that time, all that green lush beautiful terrain you see today, was a huge and dangerous damp where soldiers with heavy armors could get stuck and die. Don’t miss this place, the monument is really big, detailed, dynamic and majestic.

For a history major like me, this was a great place to visit. And thanks to a guide, dressed in the military uniform of the times, the history behind the monument and the site is heartily explained in a detailed manner that I appreciated. Well worth the visit.
