The hard part is not going down, it's going up.

It is a wonderful place, it is one of my favorites. A perfect place to observe nature, you should bring an umbrella if you do not want to get wet, you must have a lot of energy because there are many stairs and suspension bridges but I promise you that it is worth it. You can climb to the waterfall from the other side, it is also a 20 minute walk through the jungle.

Easy going down, but the way home is Up!

This was a fun place to go and hear the roar of the water. The water fall is beautiful and with the recent heavy rains it was in full swing. There are a lot of things to see and do in the little town before the water fall and lots of people selling stuff. Its a pretty walk to the falls as you descend into the canyon below. Its cool and moist but the walk is a bit of a challenge coming back. You really want to pace yourself and give yourself at least 3 hours to do all of it. Some of my favorite pics of this came from while resting on a boulder and taking pics of people walking by.

unforgettable visit to Cascada
Jan. 2021
you should visit this place if you visit Banos. it is amazing.
We visited from both sides. we went with the tour, but they took us from the short way to the waterfall, but we went by ourselves from the other side, it took us around over an hour to reach the fall. I was so happy that we did.

An absolute must sight! We went by bike from Baños along the waterfalls (recommend), which ends up here. You are able to descend on both sides. We went first down it’s right (facing the waterfall, crossing the river in the village), and then up again to go down the left (down to the right before the river). Getting up and down can be quite the climb, but there are stairs and good paths on both sides, though the left one does not go as deep as the right.
NOTE: you’ll have to pay on both sides.

The left: You won’t be able to get as far down not deep, but you will be following the river on its way down. This is an easier climb and offers a beautiful view, both on the way and when you’re there.

The right: For sure more of a heavy climb going back up, but definitely worth it! Going down you’ll pass by souvenir shops and restaurants before heading down the stairs and paths through the forest covered mountainside. A couple of restaurants lay at the bottom of the waterfall and you’re able to enjoy a meal with this beautiful view. Passing these, you will be able to climb the crocked stone stairs dug into the mountain and follow the waterfall almost all the way behind it. It can get a bit tight, so you’ll probably have to arch your back and climb on all fours parts of the way. You’ll be able to see the entire waterfall, and where it runs out. This sight is absolutely breathtaking and at least had me in awe.
NOTE: this last part of the route is VERY wet. Make sure your electronics are protected, and you yourself got a poncho or proper rain coat! You’ll be dripping, no doubt.

Worth it! (even for a non-waterfall enthusiast lol)

Absolute must see. I've been few times to Niagara Falls (and not one extremely fascinated by waterfalls in general lol) and so I questioned really 'how great can this waterfall be' and there is nothing like being able to come so incredibly close to one and hear the roar of its force. The best way to get there is the chivas truck tours offered throughout Banos for $5. They hit up all of the major waterfalls and then at the end give a good hour for the Pailon del Diablo. We had plenty of time to hike down (from the Old Entrance, which helps the local communities. The new entrance is foreign owend), take photos, enjoy its grandiosity and have a drink overlooking the beautiful scenery.

Both entrances are owned by Ecuadorians. I can’t speak for the old entrance, but the new entrance has a monthly food distribution for the retired elderly in Rio Verde and nearby areas. The new entrance also heavily sponsors a home for teen girls that are in high risk situation and helps provide better education for hundreds. I am sorry that you were misled. I hope you enjoyed your visit. Both sides are beautiful.

Was a little bit of a hike here but worth it. Beautiful place. Were quite a few people here and was a tight squeeze to get to the top under the waterfall.
