Interesting stop.. The kids will get boarded quickly but worth the stop. To see how the fish are grown to before they are placed in the lakes and streams. Small museum and restroom. If you are lucky you can see the staff feed the fish the kids love that.

Interesting side trip.... maybe 10 minutes off the highway, right under the rim. Beautiful, quiet forest. See and feed the hundreds of rainbow trout! Great for kids and those anglers that get a rush from just the sight of a three pounder!

Would have been 5 stars, had we been able to feed the fish as advertised. Loved seeing all these great fish, and knowing how they stock local lakes. Their stocking program is what impresses me the most.

Always look forward to returning to the Tonto Fish Hatchery. This is a place that holds great memories for our family. Our children loved this place. Also, when they went to Science Camp they loved the hike from camp to the hatchery. Now our dog is just confused about the fish!

Not sure if it was due to fall but most of the containers didn't have any fish. I saw one person that looked like they worked there but nothing else happening. On a different note the changing leaves were beautiful

I didn't even know this existed until I looked up top attractions in Payson on TripAdvisor. Many tanks that kids could up to and look in.

My husband and I took our grandson, he had a great time. It's educational in the way of showing them the stages of life.

We are birdwatchers, and have learned that state fish hatcheries tend to be great places for birdwatching. The Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery was a great place to see some new species in a scenic setting. We enjoyed looking at the different sizes of trout, too, and perusing the exhibits in the Visitor's Center. Many families were having a fun Saturday... More

Been coming here with kids and grandkid for over 30 years. I studied icthyology (branch of zoology) in graduate school and learned a lot from talking to the resident biologists. But their information is just as valuable (if not more) to youth today. Interns and staff are always willing to share information and the hatchery has so much to offer.... More

We went to Payson to beat the heat of Phoenix for the day and stumbled across the hatchery so we decided to take a look around. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the area around the hatchery was. There were spots along the stream near the waterfalls to have a picnic or just sit and enjoy nature. The hatchery... More
