Downtown Phoenix is very attractive and exciting. It's a symbiotic union of its old and modern history, closely connected with the present life of the city. And Phoenix also looks in the future.
I spent only half the day in its downtown, visiting the beautiful and timeless St. Mary's Basilica, the very unique, historic and memorable Heritage Square and the fascinating Arizona Science Center, that is so important to children's education. I also walked across the modernly designed, bright-colored ASU campus and talked to some of its students (they love the ASU Phoenix campus, and they love to study!), then I had lunch in the cool 11:30 Restaurant at the futuristic-looking Arizona Center, that definitely is a striking example of contemporary architecture and commerce. There's a lovely landscaped park at Arizona Center, where one can comfortably sit and relax in the shade from high-rises and huge trees.
The downtown area of Phoenix has a lot more to offer - there are theaters, museums, shops, convention centers, sports arenas, and a hundred of restaurants for any taste and preference. Historic and modern hotels are located in this area, as well.
Phoenix is a big city of 4,7 million people. I am sure, when I visit it again - there will be a lot to see and a lot to discover in its truly welcoming downtown area.

How cool is it to have Phoenix city guides throughout the city to guide you around? It was great! Compared to other cities which we have been to, Phoenix seems small and quaint with lots of friendly people. Everything you want to see is within walking distance including old buildings with beautiful architecture, museums, outside sculptings, a gorgeous cathedral, ASU campus, sports stadiums and lots of nice restaurants and breweries. We tried the Rose and Crown Pub and we loved it. The city is very pet friendly and we had lots of people making of our dog which was pleasant. We found some park areas in the shade and they were nice to take a break in and to get out of the sun for awhile. We loved this city and plan on returning someday.

In downtown the atmosphere is very Arty. There are comedy clubs, theaters, sports field, museums, and event venues. I would recommend here rather than the rest of Phoenix.

There are guides throughout the downtown area that will ask if you need assistance if they see you stop or look confused. Also, stop at the visitor center first thing because they will give you a map and let you know what you can do for free, and answer any questions you may have.

Me and my friends decided to just get a taste of the west coast for once so we chose PHX. We planned on meeting up with other friends that went to Arizona State Univeristy and we had fun they showed us around to all the different restaurants, malls, clubs, and at the time they were holding a huge community festival full of culture and vendors. It wasn’t to thrilling but it was cool.
