It is very bumpy, but I would think if he sat in the front seat, it would be ok. I would check with the company when you book it though.

Each Company has a special tour which take 2-3 hours and you go off into canyon and bump your way around. The Red Rock jeeps are covered and eh guides friendly and fun. Scenery - try the hot air balloon rides - they... More

I'd say 6 can comfortably sit in the jeep. Not sure if they would put you with another group. We are a family of 4 and we were alone on our tour.
