The drive through the Red Rock country is very scenic and one of the best drives in Arizona if not the entire south-west. However, it is VERY popular and the traffic can be heavy and slow on weekends and holidays. Best during the golden hours...More

Took this ride a couple of times exploring and on our way back to the Phoenix airport. Really nice views and peaceful.

First time visitors won’t be disappointed! The bluff views keep coming and coming around each curve. Lovely and well maintained highway with bike lanes. Plenty of scenic overlook opportunities and trail heads with parking are signed well.

Nice pull off areas to walk/ hike or just to sit and soak in the scenery. One of the pull offs is the trail to hike up Bell Rock

The traffic leaves much to be desired, in that there's quite a bit of it! But the scenery is undeniably wonderful. The sharp color contrasts of red, oranges, tans and olive drab green, is magnificent!

This is one of the most awe inspiring drives you'll ever take. Unfortunately, there are lots of people driving this road as well so you have to watch traffic. It can also back up during busy times of the day and traffic can slow going...More

You cannot describe the appearances of the surroundings as you approach Sedona on SR 170 from the south. I wanted to stop multiple times and just absorb the view and its colors

We loved our trip up the scenic Byway. We stopped at several places along the way to view and take pictures. Parking was very crowded at some of the lots/stops, but we just traveled along to the next one. Gorgeous!!!

I only wish this route had MORE scenic pulloffs! All I wanted to do was stop and take pictures as the Rock formations changed as you drive into Oak Creek and Sedona. There were no pulloffs till after Oak Creek. And even those, were low...More

Sorry I didn’t do any trails. I know there is a park pass that includes all national parks. Hope that helps you.

Well I went up 89 and I'm sorry I didn't go up 179. If I had known the difference then, I would have chosen 179. I would have had more awe seeing Sedona for the first time going north on 179 rather than when I was leaving... More

It is totally your choice. But you will miss a lot of you do not do hiking. There are places like the Devil’s bridge that you cannot see from the highway or even the standard helicopter tour. But you can still see a lot just... More
