I ascended this volcano one time before, that first time I wasn't planning camping, so ascended with water, little food and clothes. Second (this) time, camping was planned. Started at 14:00, it took us 3:30 hours to get to the refuge, and decide to camp there. I think it might be 4:20 hours to the summit, but terrain there is... More

I went with a group from the Spanish school on a Saturday. It took us 7 hours to up and down. We had a couple of people who were a little slow on the climb up, so we could have probably done it in 6 hours. It's a steep climb with many built in stairs. The views were wonderful on... More

Hiking San Pedro Volcano is not for everyone. This is a 3 to 4 hour climb up the side of a Volcano on a dirt trail. That said if you have the stamina the climb is worth it for the view. We used a local Guide which makes all the difference in the experience you will have. This hike will... More

The volcanos are around the Atitlán Lake. Very beautiful and impressive. There is many villages around the lakes that are very nice.

Very satisfying hike up this spectacular volcano. If your of average fitness this should hold no problems. A guided tour is recommend. The information desk next to the ferry port in San Pedro town is your best bet for organising a guided hike.

Got the trail head around 7:00 am, just took a tuc tuc from town, cost me 10 Q and I no guide was needed. The entrance fee is 100Q and a guide takes you about 20 minutes to steer you to the right direction, its included with the fee. The trail is very well maintained, I saw a man picking... More

If you are in bad shape, stop after the second mirador (the one with the tire swing)! Really, there is a very long climb after that and it's steep and hard. My friend and I found out just how out of shape we are on this hike. It took us more then 5 hours to get to the top, and... More

An early start (5.30-6am) to enable climbing the mountain before the clouds set in (usually 10am). A tuc-tuc ride from town cost 10Q per person to the gates of the volcano national park. 100Q entry fee included a guide for the first 20 mins of the hike to the bottom of the main volcano trail- it first snakes through coffee... This beautiful Volcano hike is thru small coffee & maize (corn) fields on the lower part of the trail and shaded forest on the upper trail. With several thousand feet of elevation gain this is not for the faint at heart. It is a tough hike but worth the effort!! 3 hours of stair master up and then of course... More

So first of all I am not in very good shape. My cardio is terrible. I absolutely hated this hike, but only because I found it very hard. We used tiger tours, it was 20$ a person. Nacho was our guide and he was excellent. We decided to pay a little more to get a tuk tuk directly from our... More
