If you are in San Marco, go to visit this place with spectacular views. It's easy to get there.
We saw some locals doing their Mayan rituals on the top of the hill - interesting.
It was our first day at the Lake and my sister jumped from there to the warm water Lake. She felt fantastic :) Maybe because it was about Christmas time, we did not have any troubles.

It was closed on my 2020 trip but in 2019 I did the hike and watched the people jump from the trampolina. The water is clear and clean and the hike is an easy walk. Excellent spot to get some nice photos of the lake and the volcanoes..

A beautiful hidden gem in San Marco on the shore of Lake Atitlan. The nature reserve is very sensibly priced and has ample areas for sunbathing and seating areas to enjoy the views.

A short trip by taxi boat from Panajachel making it all the more interesting. An opportunity to enjoy the lake take in the views and stop for a coffee in San Marco.

Entrance fee is q20 which is very low for such a great place. It’s small but worth the view. Don’t take any ‘tours’ that asks for more. You can sit sunbath like bored up on the rocks or jump off from the diving points you daredevil you.
I was just there for the views and the experience. Cheers.

A nice area to spend the day relaxing. there is an option to hike a little and see some miradors with beautiful views. However, the highlight is definitely the big jump into lake. A must do if you're and adrenaline junkie and visiting lake Atitlan.

It is a nice nature place, yet there is a problem at the entrance: they first informed us that only children under the age of 5 are free - then, after they realized that we had two that’s were under the age of 5 they changed to actually all kids should pay ( including a baby under the age of one).I politely asked where this was written as this was an obvious change and I wanted to see the written rule - they said they were the rulers ( “ somos nosostros que hacemos las reglas y normas”) -wohoo! This is what I call scam. So make sure you ask for your receipt and you pay the right price - it is less because of the amount yet more as I feel corruption is not to be supported and tolerated. The guys certainly did not want to give us tickets for the kids( although I paid and politely requested the legally required” boleto”) until I mentioned we may call the fiscalía .... so if you want to support good governance and anti- corruption, insist on your boleto - otherwise your money goes to local thugs instead of to the Community. Also note that for small kids not ideal as steep and not well - fenced steep trails ( which are very pretty- just not suitable for small children)

If you go looking for a nature reserve, you will not find it. It is more of a path on a hill. The views were nice as anywhere around the lake, the “trampoline” was fun but more of a jump from a firm platform.

The aim of my review is basically to ask you to be very careful when walking in the Cerro of Tzankujil. Me and my friend were walking up to one of the lookouts of the Nature Reserve when a man assulted us and robbed us with a machete.

The people working in the reserve were very helpful and did their best to attend us and also looked for the man who had robbed us.
It is possible to enter the reserve from a village on the other side of the mountain, which is how this man entered. Apparently there were plans to block this way, since it is a problem that people can enter wihout passing the main entrance.

My advice is not to walk alone ( we were even two people), especially not on the top were it is a but more hidden. It is a beautiful place though.

Most tourists visit this nature park so they can jump off into the lake. There is more! Original Mayan altars used for centuries, are being revitalized with the cooperation of the Mayor of San Marocs and the help of Mayan Daykeeper, Mark Elmy. These altars are used on special days of the Mayan calendar. If you are lucky, your visit may coincide with a Mayan fire ceremony. You can find more info about Mayan ceremonies at The Four Pillars (website on line). Mayan ceremonies honor the earth, and I find it to be a very moving, emotional and beautiful experience. Some climbing required, depending upon which altar is being used.

We met another family in San Marcos to specifically visit the Cerro Tzankujil Nature Reserve.

It’s basically just a swimming spot with a nice walk to get there and some good cliff jumping along the way, but it’s excellent.

The entrance fee was reasonable at 15 Q per person over 5 years old.

The walking paths are nice and along the way you’ll find the “trampoline” which is a wooden platform from which you can make the approximately 7 meter jump into the lake. There are also a few other spots where you can make 1 - 3 meter jumps off the rocks.

After jumping for a while, we found a swimming spot with easier access for the younger kids.

It was a great way to spend the afternoon.
