This is one of the most beautyful places in Iceland very lovely and differs from the fiords below like the shire of the above used to call the fiords. But the fiords have a diffrent beauty and is worth exploring as well. There are other reviews and they are good and those who live in the area know more about... More

Hallormsstaðaskógur (Hallormsstaður Forest) is one of my favourite places in Iceland to wander and explore to my heart's content. There are a few camping areas available to be used, and they are all lovely (although we had trouble finding staff to pay for our night :< ). I remember my childhood years when we camped there, and I would go... More

We found the Forestry Reserve to be a peaceful little part of Iceland, far removed from many of the sites more overrun with tourists. While it's certainly similar to many of the forest and lakes you'll find in eastern Canada or the north-eastern United States, it also boasts a wide tree species. Among the trees, many of which are not... More

Yes, and quite a beautiful one. Huge effort has been made to bring trees back to Iceland. This one is the biggest and was started over a century ago. Many possibilities for beautiful walks.

Iceland has taken steps to bring the trees back and if you love nature visit Hallormsstadur. I did an ATV tour and there is something about a forest that makes life's problems go away. There are no mosquitoes in Iceland.

It is said that if you get lost in a Icelandic forest the only thing you have to do is to stand up. This does not apply to Hallormsstadur. Here you can camp. A short distance from Egilsstadir.

There aren't a lot of trees in Iceland! This was a nice forest for a pre-dinner walk. There are walks of lots of different lengths (we found a map in Egilsstadir info centre). We only did a couple of kilometres, but it was lovely and we got some good views of the lake.

There was not much there other than a pleasant drive through the trees. We did not have time to stop and hike and did not stay at the hotel in that area.

This is a good 3-4 km walk/hike through some of the only 'woods' we saw in Iceland, so it was a treat. There's a bit of an uphill stretch, but the resulting view at the top is worth it. Evens out for a nice walk in what will be nice berry patches and trees and grasses, though it was covered... More
