This is a great way to learn about the Icelandic horses. The breed has not changed in over 1000 years.

I haven't personally, just a day ride (and loved it) but I know others who have done it. They recommend it if you have experience riding. You spend a lot of time on the horses, obviously, and you're exposed to more elements... More

I am not sure but the Icelandic horses are a very gentle breed.
