This is one rare place we find no other tourist (finally!) was here in early Dec, and this is easily accessible right on ring road. There were some slippery icy paths, but still easily managed. Very scenic and nice basalt formation to immerse, and yellow...More

I could imagine a scene from GOT being filmed here. The rock out cropping and waterfall are magical when the sun hits them. You have a better appreciation of the power of nature and the beauty the befalls it.

Lovely basalt rock formation, home of the dwarves :) There was nobody else on site when I visited so we had a good walkabout and take lots of photos. There is a designated parking lot here. If you are planning to visit Foss á Síðu...More

The mythical home of dwarves, this is a nice little spot that is great to stop at for a picnic. The basalt columns are pretty cool and it is an easy quick stop. Worth looking at.

We learned that almost every place that just looks like a rest stop, especially if it is a white sign with the cloverleaf-like symbol, is worth a detour. This place is another good example. Interesting rock formations can be observed through a very short hike....More

We visited late August 2017. Unfortunately, the path was closed off so we could not go down to see the columns, but it is still worth a brief stop for a picnic with great views. Across there is a nice waterfall worth a short stop.

We were told this is a place to stop. We saw the sign and pulled over. You couldn't see anything from the small parking area. I saw a path and then we followed it around. Pretty awesome. With all the people visiting Iceland in August,...More

This is marked on the highway but not visible directly from the road so look for the sign. The basalt columns are impressive and it is an easy walk. There is a very nice waterfall close by as well.

Dverghamrar is east of Kirkjubaejarklaustur right along the Ring Road. There is a very short loop trail that leads to the Dwarf Cliffs which are formed from basalt columns, a common theme repeated at Kirkjugolf and on Reynisfjall mountain at Reynisfjara. Informative signs are in...More

The rock formations here are stunning and the displays were informative about how they formed. There are several trails of different lengths you can take, we took the 1 hour walk which takes you past 'The Church' and it was a really enjoyable walk through...More
