We came here twice, once to snorkel and again on our Golden Circle route. The hiking trail along the ridge near the snorkeling site is lovely. We had a picnic lunch at one of the several tables.

You just have to see it. It is a spectacular scenery which I've never seen before. See the pictures - no more to say than wow. Take your time (at least 2 1/2 hours) and walk till the end and to the waterfall.

This area is where the tectonic plates collide in Iceland. The area is a rift zone. Ancient lava flows created a sheltered crack used for important historical meetings.

We visited the park Visitor Center and didn't pay for anything including parking. Visitor Center was nice with a snack bar.
