at the time of our arrival the main parking lot P1 near the visitor center was very crowded and as we discovered later during our walk the other ones (especially P4 and P5) were rather empty so maybe ask the helpful staff about the parking...More

I loved the wild flowers and alpine plants clothing the excitingly shaped lava formations. The winding paths with clear signage meant one could wander happily. However it was not at all easy to get clear pictures without other people, it was very crowded & some...More

Aside from the historical value, where Vikings held their council meetings, the beautiful 140 meter deep lake with crystal clear waters, making for great snorkeling with water temperature of only 2 degrees, are the junction of the American and Eurasian tectonic plates. They are moving...More

Geology: A rift valley where the Eurasian and North American plates come together. Beautiful volcanic rock that look like brownie batter where lava...More

Unfortunately it was pouring the day we visited this national park. however, the scene is still just as beautiful. It was very cool to walk between the plates and see the great divide between the two continents. We saw a nice waterfall and greenery.

This place looks almost unreal. Once you get over the fact that you have to pay to park and pay to use the washroom, you can enjoy a walk through this tectonic area. Prepare for midges, as in June, they love the fresh blood of...More

The only place in Iceland during my 2-week trip where i needed to pay to see something (as entry fee to the national park)! The site is on the Unesco World Heritage list and from the historical perspective interesting, but that's all too. Don't expect...More

We joined a guided tour. Our coach stopped at the parking lot, closed to the viewing platform. There should not be any problem reaching the platform. However, the pickup point was at the other end of the park entrance, and... More
