Great bridge to experience what it must have been like in the first century to cross a river on foot. Nice cafes and retaurant on both sides. Beautiful for taking pictures. Recommend going to river side and take picture from afar as its truly picturesque especially when sun is setting and bridge reflects off water.

Situated on the magnificent river Tamega, in the heart of the city of Chaves, this is a fantastic Roman work also known as "bridge of Trajan."The monument was built between the late first century and early second century A.D., during the Romanization process in the region when Chaves (Aqua Flaviae) was an important Roman town.

It's the main monunent of the city. It's well preserved and it provides a pleasant walking. I advice you to visit also the town's main museum so you can better understand the bridge's history.

A part-Roman bridge as the top layer is modern. Very pretty - good photo opportunity from either side. Pedestrian-only over the river although wide enough for vehicles - weight capability? The fun thing is that cars can drive under the arches on the river bank, but only if they are small - a big car would get stuck.

This roman bridge was built in the 1st and 2nd centuries that spans the River Tamega and has two large commerative columns in the middle. The text on the columns are of pre Roman towns. This bridge is shut to traffic and can only be crossed on foot. The River on either side is a nice walk and if you... More

Crossing the bridge seemed to divide the touristy parts of Chaves with the locals. Its a stone bridge with the original Roman pillars placed along its length. Its markedly different from the 2 other river crossings on view and a great place to view the church and what we called "the weeping angels"

This is a nice roman bridge in Chaves, a nice town to make a little stop.Like this bridge you find so many overall in Portugal but if you have the chance, just look at it and enjoy.
