Surprise yourself after going up the funicular to this "Sitio" above the city beach. Quaint shop little chapels and locals in their traditional garb. go out to the point and look at the views on both sides of the point. come back have tapas and drinks above the beach town and enjoy the view

This has to be one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. The views are outstanding. It was March, so no massive waves, but there was plenty of surfers.
The food trucks on the path to the lighthouse have some good food lunch options. Restrooms at at the top and cost 50cents to use.
As others have mentioned, the walk to the lighthouse is long and steep, but be sure to have 3 euros per person to take a shuttle (tuk-tuk) back to the top.

Very beautiful scenery from the top of the cliff. We were there on a chilly day so did not use the beach but it was still quite busy. We enjoyed the scenery, the live vibe, and the many photo opportunities. We had a car so drove up to the top of cliff rather than use the funicular, which I suspect can take a while to wait for during off season. Btw, it’s true about the ladies with traditional skirts - very cute indeed!

This was a great place to visit. Expect normal tourist trap crowds. A fun walk down and a bit of a tough walk back up. Absolutely worth it to see the biggest waves in the world!

Wow, the views are stunning from here. Park and walk around; take it all in. You can enjoy some food/drinks at one of the many cafes or just walk the cliffs and look down on the beach and waves. Be aware that there are steep cliffs and nothing stopping you from walking right off the edge.

Sitio is at the top of the cliff of Nazare and has a large piazza overlooking the main tourist beach and seaside village, known as Praia. You can also take the funicular that runs from Sitio to Praia (the villiage and beach below). There is a beautiful church on the piazza of Sitio and lots of places to eat or have a drink. From here, you can also walk down to the lighthouse which is on the point separating the tourist beach in the south, and the North Beach, called Praia Nord. This is where the professionals surf. We love this place and now have a home here. In all my travels in the past few years, I have yet to find a town so cute, traditional and interesting.

We're staying in a b&b not too far from this place so we decided to walk here to see the view. It's uphill (both ways) and you should wear good walking shoes. It's worth the trip because the views are amazing!
Once you reach the top there's a little square with shops and a church. We bought an adorable little hooded wool sweater for a one year old for only 15E. I found a magnetic closure (hard to find magnetic) three band bracelet for only 6E. Also very affordable kitchen towels for 4E.
Behind the shops is the breathtaking view. If you walk down the very step path & through the 'largest waves in the world' arch you reach the lighthouse. The cost to go in the lighthouse is 1E. We decided to stay outside & walk behind it. Warning it's steep and very windy. Make sure you have a jacket. We saw many very cold people at 1300 on a sunny clear day.
You can also drive down to the lighthouse, but the parking lot there only holds about 10 cars.
It's a hike, but the views are breathtaking & worth the effort.

Made our way up to the Sitio (fort), which was closed, to watch some big wave surfing. Nazare has one of the biggest waves in Europe, the Sitio is the perfect viewing platform but on a big forecast, get there early, parking is limited and when we went the police closed the road to cars and we had to park in the village and walk down the steep hill to the fort. The village is full of tourist souvenir stalls and hosts a cafe and a few restaurants, there are public toilets and great views over Nazare.

What a lovely day out! We came up on the funicular for most of the day.

We had lunch and then did some shopping and then went down to the big waves.

It’s a much slower pace than Nazare which is welcome in the busy summer.
