The Guinness World record for surfing the highest wave at 78 feet was set on November 1, 2011. Google a photo of it. Unbelievable. The waves were okay the day we visited but nowhere near this height!

Fort Sao Miguel sits on the headland between Nazaré beach and North Beach. Originally constructed in 1537, it was used during several skirmishes over the centuries. The view is spectacular of both beaches, but there is not much to the fort. Admission was €1.00 part...More

The best thing about the fort is that is the best spot to watch the big waves crashing on North Beach in Nazare. The entire show is absolutely mesmerizing and no less spectacular. The biggest waves I ever saw!!!

I was really looking forward to seeing the classic Nazare waves but the day we turned up the mist was so thick we could hardly see the lighthouse. The Forte contains a really interesting surf museum too.

More than worth the visit, the views of Nazaré beach from this site are amazing! It’s always packed and the circulation of cars is difficult in a narrow road that leads to the fort but be patient. Maybe parking a little before the end and...More
