A very impressive orthodox monument to be seen in Alba Iulia. On top of that is situated in the middle of old citadel. Not to be missed.

The cathedral was built according to a model in Targovishte. Larger and more elaborately decorated for the needs of the 1922 coronation, which actually took place in the yard because Ferdinand is a Roman Catholic and refuses to be crowned inside. The place is well...More

A beautiful orthodox cathedral, in the middle of Citadel. Free of charge to visit all the complex: citadel, gothic cathedral and orthodox one. But the orthodox is more impressive.

This cathedral was constructed in 1.5 years and is the most important ortodox church in Alba Iulia and the place were King Ferdinand and Queen Maria were crowned in 1922, as sovereigns of Great Romania.

Even if it’s not yet 100 years old, this cathedral is stunningly well-preserved and rises to its legacy. It’s guarded by the statues of Ferdinand / Maria, the Romanian king / queen coronated here. Such a beautiful place, must visit.

The newest building in the citadel (97 years old), it is an impressive building and a symbol of the union of all Romanians. Very representative for the Orthodox religion and the unique Brancovenesc architecture style.

94% of Romanians are orthodox. It was awesome to observe a place of warship so sacred to so many. We went during a service and were able to hear a male quire chanting. This location had other historical significance too. It has been well restored...More

The building is big, well cared for, with a lot of paintings and other nice ornaments. During ceremony can be even more impressive as the sound resonates in the entire building.
