The Moorish fortress or Alcazar rises above the Puerta de Sevilla, forming an almost impregnable defensive complex - It underwent major alterations in the 14th and 15th centuries. - Restoration work carried out between 1973 and 1975 included the refurbishing of several sections as venues for staging cultural events. - Keep: the tower is solid up to the level of the courtyard and its bossed ashlars remain intact. - Tower of Gold: this tower provides a beautiful view over Carmona. - Prisoners' Hall: this is all that remains of the palace that stood inside the Alcazar. - Patio of Cisterns: in the middle of this courtyard there is an underground cistern excavated in the rock and featuring six skylights.

One can climb part of the double entrance gate for the road to Seville. There are several platforms as well as rooms that one can enter. Most of the displays in the rooms are nothing special, but there is an old banner on display and a nice cupola roof. However the real reason to enter and climb up are the... More

The Alcazar is a typical fortified Moorish fortress at the Gate from Sevilla. It signals entrance into the Old Town of Carmona and houses the tourist office. A visit will cost you a few Euros but the view from the top is stunning.

We arrived on a wet windy afternoon. They were making an historic film. Very exciting, it bought the historical sights which are stunning alive. Lot of little bars and restaurants plus some very good shops. The church's and family palaces are very beautiful and easy to walk to within the old town. We arrived at fiesta time. Groups of singers... More

Honestly, there is not a lot to see but the views on a sunny day are just gorgeous. There is a lot of information given to you on the self guided tour, but finally, you are looking at some place mostly in ruin. Again....the views make the place.

A large palace ground with historic castle like buildings and also nicely decorated interiors. The palace garden with nice shade from the afternoon heat and the fountains are welcoming. Can spend a couple of hours for nice walks and sit in the shade.

The Carthaginians also reinforced the bastion that defended the main access to the city at the Puerta de Sevilla, creating an imposing structure today is part of the Alcázar de la Puerta de Sevilla. This turned the city into the impregnable fortress that impressed Julius Caesar.
