We’d popped in to the distillery shop to stock up on some of their gorgeous gin and noticed their gin making experiences were back up and running, and managed to book on my birthday. I cannot tell you how much fun we had!
We were given a fascinating and entertaining history of gin and a tour of the distillery, along with complimentary glasses of each of their gins, then each pair were allocated their own little still and a wide selection of botanicals to choose from, and we all set about making our own gin. Once it was in the still we were given lunch, and before long our very own gin was trickling into the beaker. Once the process was complete we were given personalised labels (we had to think of a name for it) and the ABV was tested - ours came in at a respectable 45.6 ABV!
Nicky, Jason and AJ did a fantastic job of keeping us entertained and educated, and made sure we were all having a great time as we sniffed jars of botanicals and weighed them out, and I can’t thank them enough for making my birthday so memorable - and I’ve got my own bottle of gin to show for it, and I can’t wait for it to mature so I can try it.
Honestly, we had so much fun; you really do have such a hoot at WhataHoot!

I booked this experience as a special birthday gift, so the birthday girl and myself arrived at 11.45 am and were warmly welcomed by Nicky, this set the excellent tone for the day we were shown to the "Classroom"area where we were joined by Jason and the day was off and running.
We did the wise old owl experience (4 hours) , quickest 4 hours ever and we learned so much about making gin and its history. Nicky and Jason are so entertaining, natural and passionate about what they do they just sweep you right along with plenty of laughs and LOTS of gin. Making your own bottle of gin was great fun. Added to all this was beautiful indivual food platter which delicious. I don't want to spoil the day by giving too much away before you try needless to to say it truly is a fabulous experience and worth every penny, Thankyouso much guys 😊

So we opted for the full experience being around 4 hours and including distilling our own gin! There are various options available but I would strongly recommend this comprehensive experience. We also had a nice platter of food at a really opportune time. What struck us most though was the friendly knowledgeable and helpful "tutors" (namely the owners and distillers) together with their sheer professionalism overall. Even if not on a tour there is a nice shop and there is always someone there to give sound advice.

I was given a 'Wise Old Owl' gin distilling experience as a Christmas present in 2021 and it took me nearly a year to actually go along; if I'd known how good it was going to be I'd have put it right at the top of my to do list.
Whether my selection of botanicals will achieve the flavour I'd envisaged remains to be seen as the final product hasn't been sampled yet although the mid-distillation sips were encouraging.
If my gin isn't quite what I'm after I'll book a 'Barn Owl' experience to refine it and if I happen to have chanced on the perfect combination then I'll book a 'Barn Owl' experience and try something new (and order a bottle of my original recipe).

Thoroughly recommend this experience for anyone interested in gin making or just drinking the stuff!

Brilliant afternoon with Jason & James learning about Gin making and then actually distilling some to our own recipe with a number of carefully selected botanicals.
Would advise using a taxi or public transport to get home as we were able to sample several of the wonderful WhataHoot gins in addition to tasting our own whilst it was distilling.
This review posted a week after our visit as we've now been able to try our own concoctions, which we are very pleased with.
Even better, they save the recipe so can make more for you if desired

A send off for a former colleague. The crew were patient, organised, professional and obliging for our gana of 20. A little advance notice and they couldn't have been more welcoming, the drinks are worth every penny, top quality products and preparation.

Yesterday 3/9/22 I was lucky enough to take part in a 4 hour gin experience which was brought as a birthday present for me. It’s always nervous walking into something you haven’t done before but very quickly I was put at ease. The whole experience from start to finish was amazing! Half way through food was delivered from a local restaurant, what can I say absolutely delicious! I don’t want to give anything away about the day as it would spoil it for others but I wouldn’t think twice about going again or giving this absolutely fantastic experience to someone as a gift.

We visited Whatahoot today for the distillery tour. Friends had a voucher for Christmas and we jumped at the chance to join them. It is located in a very beautiful old building and first impressions are wow!
It was a very relaxed and informal morning slot.
James was our friendly host .We were shown into a lounge / lesson area, given a little history of the business and sampled a few of the gins whilst each one was explained in detail along with the process of sourcing the ingredients and alcohol content etc..
We then went to the distillery where the process was explained along showing us the botanicals used and the bottling method.
There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
After the tour we had a complimentary gin in the bar area which was delicious! (The bar is open to all)
If you are in kings Lynn I can highly recommend the tour, hubby was so impressed he is hoping to return for a lesson in gin making which is a course they offer to ‘design’ your own gin. Overall a fab little place which had just the right balance of information for an interesting experience.

We arrived at a beautiful building with a warm welcome. The small team could not do enough to entertain, inform, and educate. I learned so much about the history of gin while sipping generous servings of their own gin. A tour of productions and then down to the "serious business" of creating our own gin. Jason & Nicky were on hand to guide the botanical selections and then through each stage of the process. Tasty lunch was served while we waited for the distillation process to finish. It was a brilliant afternoon with lots of laughs. I just hope our own gin will be as good as the afternoon making it...... 7 days and counting for the tasting!!

If you are looking for a great way to spend an afternoon drinking, making and learning about gin, this is the place to be!!
Starting with a very insightful look into the history on gin whilst sampling the first of their fantastic gins.
You then get a tour of the distilery and learn how the gin is made before making your very own 70cl bottle on the miniture stills. You get to choose your own botanicals from a large selection to suit your taste.
As you are waiting for your gin, you are treated to a lovely platter of food. My partner requires a gluten free diet and was well catered for. In fact I think hers was better than mine! By now we were also on our 3rd complimentary double G&T!
After lunch your gin will just about be ready for bottling, you get to name and label your own bottle as a keepsake from the day.
We also got to try their Vodka before a final G&T!
Owners Nicky and Jason are fantastic hosts, very knowledgeable and lots of fun.
I highly recommend this tour!!
