About
Come and enjoy this delightful museum which tells the story of West Norfolk. Be amazed by the Bronze Age timber circle known as 'Seahenge' which is the museum's stunning centrepiece. Learn about the people who meticulously crafted the timbers and study the marks left by their bronze axes. Browse around the 'West Norfolk Story'. Marvel at gold coins concealed inside a cow bone since Roman times. Imagine being a pilgrim in the thriving medieval port of King's Lynn or riding on a magnificent Victorian merry-go-round. With thousands of fascinating objects, there's plenty to keep the whole family entertained. Family friendly events and museum trails throughout the year. Changing temporary exhibition programme, see website for details.

- VikinglongboatDerby, United Kingdom165 contributionsReally interesting visit.Delightful small museum, right next to the bus station. St James's Multi-storey car park 2 mins walk. Lots of interesting, well presented exhibits / displays including the 'seahenge' timbers which were fascinating in their own unique way. Small gift shop, friendly and helpful staff and a single toilet inside, although the main toilets that serve the bus station and that part of King's Lynn are located just outside the museum entrance. Free entry during winter but not summer so check. A credit to the town and the museum sector.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 3, 2023

We found a water ski racing event taking place - really exciting and the town was an historic site in itself. Tremendous day out.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten January 5, 2024
- rosie64 contributionsA real little gemWhat a treat of a free museum this is! There’s a real eclectic mix of artefacts inside. Most notably, Seahenge, which is displayed fully and carefully. There is also currently a moon exhibition on at the moment which I’m not sure is temporary or not. It’s a definite must see for the area with really friendly staff and such a variety of things insideVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 9, 2024
- JackLeicester, United Kingdom17 contributionsUnexpectedly BrilliantWe couldn’t believe how much was in the Lynn Museum. Absolutely loads to look at and learn about. There’s a range of galleries to explore: “Seahenge”, civil war, space race etc. Make sure you spend a decent amount of time looking at the cabinet of curiosities. All the cases are the original mahogany, too. There are lots of things to do for kids as well, so this is well worth your time for at least a couple of hours with the family. Don’t miss it!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 8, 2024

They have done their best to make this into an interesting little museum but, to be honest, there was not a lot of earth-shattering interest. The local history is pretty rich but the artefacts rather less riveting. Heavy accent on child friendly activities.

Free to enter Museum exhibiting artefacts, stories, history and cultural items of significance and interest. Learned a lot about the different eras, settlements, activities and ways of people across a wide timespan. Really worth a visit.

We wanted to see the henge having read about it in the wonderful Ellie Griffith ‘s books. It did not disappoint. The museum is small but really well laid out and everything is labelled. It’s very well orientated to involving children with lots of built in relevant activities.
Lots of wonderful examples of locally discovered torcs and coins.
Handy for the train and bus station.

Loved taking out grandson round Kings Lynn museum, the tiger is still there from when we were children. Taylor’s seed shop was just wonderful, glad to see ladymans big tea pot there. Lovely little half term trip. Well worth a visit.

A small museum but star of the place is undoubtedly the henge. However there’s lots of other interesting things as well, we were happily occupied for well over an hour. Also it was free ( we went in February - in the middle of storm Dennis!) so overall very good value.

Spacious, airy and well laid out museum in a former chapel which retains its stained glass window. "Quick visit" selection of information and "voices" which augment the main collections. Spent nearly two hours here, but we do tend to look at and read a lot!
