- kenblakeLincoln, United Kingdom12 contributionsGreat placeA small but very interesting place. Interesting to delve into the lives of the people that lived in that area. Just be careful of the steps in the cottage. The staff were very friendly. The little cafe serves lovely tea and cake xxVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 21, 2024
- Alan HSaffron Walden, United Kingdom434 contributionsIt wasn't that long ago.The staff who run this museum are the stars. They explain how to follow the route through the complex of buildings and serve good refreshments in the cafe. This is the surviving part of a whole district that portrays the life and times of the people who lived here when fishing was a major employer: an area with its own culture.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 15, 2024
- Hillary SWigan, United Kingdom266 contributionsHow fisherfolk lived in times gone by in Kings LynnThis is a small but very interesting and educational museum about life and hardships of the fisherfolk of Kings Lynn. The town models in the museum give insight as to how many "yards" the town was built up of and how little there is now remaining. A valuable resource for capturing a part of history and a museum that needs everybody's support.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten April 24, 2024
- JackLeicester, United Kingdom17 contributionsWorth an hourThis museum is steeped in niche, local history. Two of the original cottages of King’s Lynn’s North End still stand and they have been lovingly and diligently restored to how they would have looked inside. There is lots to learn and look at. I would say that it’s worth an hour of your time to learn about this important part of local history if you’re in the area.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 8, 2024

A little off the beaten track, but well worth the effort to find it.
Staff are very helpful and the museum offers an excellent insight into the lives and work of the inhabitants of this small fishing community in former days. Of particular interest are the two renovated cottages- des.res. they were not!
There's so much history and exhibits to interest a true enthusiast.

What a delightful museum! Very interesting exhibits, including the two cottages and the smokehouse, and a fitting tribute to the fisherfolk who once lived there. A fascinating insight into an important part of King’s Lynn’s proud history.

What an interesting and well put together little museum. It manages to tell its own local story and also to reflect how it all fitted in with what was going on in the Country as a whole.
When you visit please take the time to read the stories with the exhibits as they really do complement each other
Bet and her colleague, who was working in the Smithy area, were really welcoming and full of good information

What an interesting place tucked away from any tourist area. Well worth the time it took to find it. The exhibits are fascinating and the fisherman's cottages very well presented. It looks small but you can easily spend 2-3 hours here, including a visit to the lovely cafe. The staff are really friendly and the cake lovely. Mostly wheelchair accessible but a companion is necessary to assist.

A gem of a place, showing the living history of a time gone by, not a very big place but packed with history, including a restored cottage which includes history of past tenants. Appropriately priced for the size. Well worth the visit

I attempted to visit your museum yesterday with my 3 children.
Having checked the website, as well as trip advisor we made the journey to arrive by 3.30pm.
When we arrived the notice on the door stated last entry 3pm!
At this point I abandoned the visit as I knew how my children would react; they are all autistic, and as such they see any plans made as set in stone. Unfortunately this is part of their condition.
Perhaps change your advertised opening times to reflect the times you are actually open to avoid disappointment in future.

Fantastic Museum …. Focusing on a time gone by and an area lost to redevelopment.
So much to see …. Fascinating archive room upstairs!
2 cottages to see … and an original smoke house!
Lovely ladies on the reception … nice Tea Room reasonably priced .
Maybe not the biggest, but crammed full of interesting Local history .
Would recommend to adults … maybe not so much for children to do.

Is there on-site parking at the museum? If not, which is the nearest car park that is likely to have spaces on a weekday morning?
Written May 12, 2019
So sorry Sue. I didn't see your message til now! As Amy says, there is no on-site parking. I visit KL by public transport so have no idea about car parks. I know there are several carparks in KL, so you could Google to find the nearest one.
