Ascend Tantallon's towers for spectacular views of the Bass Rock and to watch gannets plunge into the North Sea. Then descend into the depths of a particularly grim pit prison.

Gorgeous landscapes on 3 sides and the beautiful water on 1 side. You will want to just stare at the shore line or watch the large boats move across the water. We saw lots of seagulls and even horses with their riders on a neighboring...More

We spent a very pleasant couple of hours at Tantallon Castle. A medieval castle, ruined by Cromwell, set on the cliff tops, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and Bass Rock. If you feel energetic you can climb the internal stairs up to the...More

Tantallon Castle is very easy to find off the A198 and there is a small car park next to the visitor centre but the main car park is about 400m from the visitor centre...Apparently a nobleman named William Douglas built this now ruinous castle in...More

Came across this after visiting Dirleton castle, both remote but not completely off the beaten path. Both very interesting ruins, Tarleton castle was breathtaking, the water views. It is easy to imagine what this would have been like during its prime!

There's not much left after Cromwell battered the place in the 17th century. For 200 years it was the home of the Red Douglas family who would periodically fall out with the Stuart kings and be attacked by them. It only takes an hour to...More

Well worth a visit. Weather was overcast but the atmosphere of this historical castle is enticing. We enjoyed investigating all the nooks and crannies. We felt like we had completed our exercises for the day by the time we had climbed to the top of...More

Castle is set high on the cliffs overlooking the Forth and Bass Rock. If you like castles and history this is worth a visit.

We could see the castle from our B&B but still had to see it up close. The grounds are so well maintained and the views from the grounds were amazing. We had a beautiful blue sky day which made it perfect! This was one of...More
