We really enjoyed our 3-day tour with Bertrand and the doggies! Bertrand was welcoming, experienced, and attentive. A main deciding factor for choosing Boreal Kennels was the *all meals included*, since this saved logistical planning around meals, and it was well worth it. I was really happy with the food, there was more than enough and it was tasty. There's nothing quite like waking up in a tent to tea/coffee being made up for you!
We dog sledding for several hours each day, and the views were amazing. It was a nice mix of flat straight stretches and narrow forest trails, with enough hills to keep us all on our toes. There were many photo and video-worthy moments. Bertrand checked in with us regularly to make sure we were enjoying the experience.
A highlight of the experience was the view from camp area itself, which is in a valley nestled between mountains. Seeing the sun set and rise behind the mountains, and seeing the stars at night, was unforgettable. While at camp, we had a campfire, got to explore the area on snowshoes, and even spotted some moose.
Thanks for a great experience!

We were referred to Boreal Kennels by a FB friend. Bertrand got such a rave review from our friend I was pretty sure Boreal Kennels would be our dog sledding company of choice after more research of course, we wanted value for money & a wise person always does his/her research!
I concluded that Boreal Kennels was the best option for us, we wanted the personal small/family business approach, we didn't want to get lost in the big corporate run tours. It's true that Bertrand's tours are somewhat "rustic", it's exactly what we wanted, sleeping in a tent atop animal skins in a very warm sleeping bag, sitting around camp fires talking with Bertrand about his experiences, hearing Kyote howling in the distance & being answered by our own dogs - so cool. Food was great, home cooking, even desserts!, Tour was 5 days, we were picked up by Bertrand from our hotel (& returned), we had our own team of dogs each, so we got to drive our own sled!. The dogs are amazing, just live & love to run, the moment you're moving they're all business, quiet/ focused, once you stop they bark & howl their displeasure, they're happiest when running, very healthy, well looked after & very much loved by Bertrand & his family. An amazing experience with Bertrand, he is living his dream, we both liked Bertrand very much & we had the trip of our lives, we got more than we expected & definitely excellent value for money!, I would highly recommend Bertrand from Boreal Kennels as your first choice!

Firstly we must apologise for such a late review of our stay with Boreal Kennels.
If your wanting more than just a ride on a dog sledge in the snow and want to see how it is really done then Boreal kennels is the place.
Wow wow wow from our first meeting with Bertrand at Whitehorse airport to being dropped back at the airport was absolutely incredible.
Much more than just a holiday it was an a fantastic adventure. We did the 5 day 4 nights out in the wilderness of the Yukon and BC
From meeting the dogs for the first time who are incredible, to being introduced to Bertrand’s family and to Alex, the whole experience was amazing
Bertrand’s love and respect for his dogs is unbelievable, his cooking skills are second to none with meals that under the conditions were fantastic.
Julie, Bertrand’s wife prepares wonderful food from apple pie to quiche and much much more
His knowledge of the area is second to none, his care for our party was also second to none with nothing being any trouble from having a hot cuppa ten minutes after arriving at each of our destination’s to coffee first thing in the morning whilst still in bed (sleeping bag)
We were a party of four, 2 in our 50’s and 2 in our 60’s from Australia, leaving 35c temp in Australia to arriving in Whitehorse to -25c was to say the least a shock to the system.
Bertrand had advised us to use Mensworld in Whitehorse for the hire of our clothing and he was 100% correct, Pat looked after us fantastically, she made sure everything provided to us was all we needed and more. All the clothing was in great condition and very warm.
Alex is an amazing young man he too has an affinity with all the dogs his care for us was also amazing. His swimming skills are not the best but I would let him tell you about them, after all it was -15 at the time

Outstanding!! I can’t thank Bertrand, Julie, Alex, and their four legged companions enough for an experience of a lifetime. My husband and I, and I expect also our two good friends whom we travelled with, will be talking about our 5 day/4 night dog sledding adventure for many years to come.
Beautiful tranquil landscapes, gorgeous friendly dogs, and the BEST guide and hosts you can imagine. And to top it off we were privileged to witness the magic of the Northern lights on our last night.
Dog sledding with Boreal Kennels was truly a unique and authentic experience and we loved every minute of it. Going with Boreal was a brilliant choice and I would hope to do this again some time with Bertrand and his team. I highly recommend a dog sledding trip with Boreal Kennels to anyone who has an adventurous spirit. What more can I say. Fantastic!!

It's hard to put into words at how amazing our trip was with Boreal Kennels. I searched all over Canada and the US for an experienced outfitter that would provide a unique and custom dogsledding experience in the Mountains. After narrowing our list down from 30 guides/companies we finally got the list down to 5. After evaluating all 5 companies we just had that gut feeling about Boreal Kennels and The Yukon that drew us to them. Something about what they had to offer seemed more authentic than the other companies and as our group of 4 would come to find out, it was exactly what we were looking for.
Spending 5 days dogsledding the Yukon wilderness comes with some hesitations on safety, cold weather, not having the correct gear, etc. Our group came from San Diego where the weather never get's below 50 degrees F so knowing the temps can get down to -30 F was a bit scary.
Boreal Kennels - Bert and Anthony were our guides for the trip and were spectacular. They do everything to make you comfortable, well fed, safe and having a good time. They picked us up from the airport and took care of everything until they dropped us off at the airport on our departure day. They went above and beyond what we would have expected from a guide.
Safety - Bert is a wilderness expert, I remember him talking about having search and rescue experience or something similar and the moment we stepped into the wild we felt totally safe. Not one moment through the whole trip did we feel like we were in danger.
Food - Not exactly sure how they were able to serve us such delicious meals, but I think I ate better than I do at home.
Tent/Accommodations - One of the things we really wanted was a winter camping experience. We were blown away by the comfort of our accommodations at night. I don't want to give too much details as I think one of the exciting parts about a trip like this is the unknown. Just know that we stayed warm and were much more comfortable than we could have imagined on a trip like this.
Dogs - What an incredible group of animals. I wanted to take them all home with me. It got really cold with whiteout conditions one day and even with icicles forming on their mouths they were having the time of their lives. They truly love to pull the sleds and love people too. We got to help with harnessing them and helping out when we wanted. If you don't want to help out, Bert and Anthony took care of everything.
Gear - I don't even own a jacket, so was super worried about not having proper gear for this. Boreal Kennels recommended we rent the Arctic Package from Men's World in Whitehorse and it was amazingly comfortable and warm. It came with all the outer layers (Boots, Snowpants, Jacket, Hat & Gloves) designed for super freezing temperatures. They had our gear waiting at our hotel upon our arrival and everything fit perfectly and worked out great. We brought all our own underlayers (wool base layers and some mid-layers) as well as goggles (recommended), hand warmers (recommended), a balaclava (recommended) and all our normal camera's, phones, a solar charger, etc.
We thought our 5 day trip was pretty crazy but we came to find out people do 14-day adventures, 30 day adventures and everything in between. They will customize the trip based on what you want to do and what you want the experience to be like.
We are thankful we found these guys and the experience of a lifetime they created.

Even though it was my sister's first time in winter weather and she fell sick this was a perfect trip! Bertrand and Alex were really thoughtful. The forest trail on our last day of dog sledding was something else. I guess we live for moments like this. THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES!

Amazing trip. Brought my wife for her 45 birthday. she felt in love with our guides( Bertrand and Anthony) and the dogs. Personalized service, Bertrand even brought a cake for our first dinner in the wilderness. The service is second to none and you feel part of the family, not like big company running dog sledding adventure. I will have to return since 3 days 2 nights was not enough. Every moment spent there was a moment of pleasure. Thanks again all.

A friend had asked "do you want to go dog sledding in the Yukon?". The answer to that must undoubtedly be "only with Bert and his fantastic dogs"...
From start to finish, Bertrand runs a fabulous operation. He attends to his customers with almost as much attention as he does to his beloved dogs :) .
Seriously: the trip is carefully thought out and he does everything possible to make it the best ever: he is sure people have warm gear; he provides warm sleeping arrangements and lets you have the right balance of sledding and down time; the food is varied, tasty, plenty (too much to have room for chocolate cheesecake for dessert, but don't worry, if you want, you can have it for breakfast! But you won't want to, because there's coffee in your tent, then pancakes and sausages!!!) Bertrand's wife, Julie, makes a really mean apple crumble, and we had to make room after delicious Salmon for dinner.
I felt that Bertrand has a perfect balance of safety and thoughtfulness, polite interest in his customers, understanding of the mix of chilling out and getting out there, flexibility to accommodate for the quirks of weather and airline mixups. It was a simply grand trip, and I cannot over recommend it. You gotta go!!!

We looked forward to this trip since the moment we booked it directy with Bertrand via the website of Boreal Kennels and we were more than satisfied in every way! We had booked a 10 day mushing trip. Bertrand, the owner, picked us up directly from our hotel in Whitehorse and drove with us to Carcross, about 45 minutes south of Whitehorse, where the kennel is located.
After coffee we packed the sledges and met the dogs for the first time. For Bert safety and the wellbeing of his dogs are the most important things. The dogs were hooked up and off we went to slede in incredibly beautiful scenery of Bennett lake, where we camped in three different places each with wonderful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. During these days we only met two other people who were out on a snowmobile. The silence of the landscape and the cracking of the ice on the lake at night due to the frost was amazing.
After five days on Bennett lake (where we also snowshoed for one day up a frosen river to a wonderful small lake), we moved towards Tagish lake, where we spent the other days.
During the trip, Bert and his assistent guide Garry, both took extremely well care of us. No thing was too much. Diner was good and often prepared back home already by Berts wife, Julie (who is a great cook). Really every thing was taken care of or was arrangement for!Bert is good company and knows a lot about the area and nature around. His experience in being and living outdoor is clear and that makes him the perfect guide for such a great outdoor adventure!
When we returned to the kennel after 10 days, we enjoyed the hospitality at home, where we stayed in a cosy log cabin. Bert took us at our layover day to the Tahini hotsprings near Whitehorse, which was great (my personal thanks to Julie there!).
All in all, book your mushing trip with Boreal Kennels if you want to have a great time in spectacular scenery with a guide who really cares about his dogs!

I booked a dog sledding/mushing tour with Boreal Kennels for myself and my family mid January 2017. We were greeted with a cup of hot drinks and Bert's warm and friendly family. We did snow shoeing for a while and then it was time for sledding. Bert and his super-nice assistant Barbara, showed my wife and I how to control the sleds and he led the way on his ski-doo. The trip was a lot of fun and quite a learning experience. Unfortunately, it was quite cold that day, -35 deg Celcius, so Bert took off his jacket and put it over my 10 year old daughter. Her heart melted and she said "Dad, Bert is such a gentleman"! We asked Bert to cut the trip short due to the cold and he was really nice about it.
My recommendation: 1. You MUST book a trip with Bert if you are out in the Yukon - you won't regret it, and 2. Get good quality winter gear so that the cold does not interfere with your fun.
