We went with my family (includding an one year old son) and the place is amazing. You can see Moais under construction and lot of them. You'll have to walk a litle bit, but the experience worth it. We went with my son wihtout carriage, just in our hads. It could be easier if you get a baby carrier backpack,... More

Vast numbers of moai in various stages of construction in the quarry. Some appeared to have been completed, then erected awaiting for the buyer to come and remove them - but they never did! Will we ever find out why they suddenly stopped making the moai?

If you see one thing on Easter Island, make it Rano Raraku. This is the quarry for the Moai. There are several cavings still there and some started and left in the rock. A walkway leads you around -- but do not wander off the path because the ground is sacred. If you're elderly, take your time, there are places... More

This was probably our favourite moai site due to the variety & volume of moai. This is also where you'll find the kneeling moai and the largest uncut one. You can take a walk up to the crater rim too, this only takes a couple of minutes. There is also trail just 2 min away from the car park starting... More

Going to Easter Island is a dream in itself. But in my mind the one location that I really wanted to visit was Rano Raraku. Going there was simply magical. It is easy to find and you can walk through yourself with ease as well. No guide needed. It is important to know that there are new rules about the... More

These were the most amazing statues on the Island for me. Your ticket only allows one visit so make the most of it. The statues face almost east. So the best photos will be taken in the morning with the sun on their faces. The pathway around the site takes you very close to the statues, in some cases only... More

A must, to see where these magnificent moai's were carved with simple rock tools and then transported to their final destinations. It is absolutely amazing! As you approach Rano Raraku, you will see moai’s standing on the hillside. Once inside the quarry, you will see moai’s in various stages of production, unfinished, standing, toppled in the process of moving and... More

We were on a guided tour of three of Easter Island's sites, in our minivan we travelled back through part of Hanga Roa and out to the coast where we saw a number of Ahus, some destroyed, face down, broken and may part Moais along the beautiful scenic coastline heading towards Reno Raraku crater in the Rapa Nui National Park,... My roommate and I went to Chile for a short week and decided to make Easter Island a part of the trip. We contacted Adventures Within Reach to help us plan the whole trip and they were great with our requests. AWR truly planned and customized the trip we were looking for. Seeing the statues was surreal and learning about... More

We approached Rano Raraku by car after witnessing the sunrise at Tongariki. It was still early, and the gate wasn't open yet. I looked up at the side of the volcano and commented to my wife that those almost looked like moai on the side of the mountain. Further examination revealed them to be exactly that, and if you are...
