Simply put - the crater is awesome. I'd seen lots of pictures before but it was still a wow moment walking up to the top and looking down. There are also great views from Orongo as well. We only truly understood the size of the...More

Once up the hillside, you get to the crater's edge... well worth the view of the swamp/lake in the middle and the overlooking ocean. This is the volcano that is closest to Hanga Roa, the only town.

We went there at the first turn after arrival to the island. It took about 2 hours to get there walking. If you are strong enough for such long way, do it. In car you won´t see beautiful view on the sea while sitting and...More

This was amazing. I didn't really care if we went here - I was wrong. It was surprisingly one of the highlights of the entire trip! Walk around part of the crater for some amazing photos.

Stand on the rim of the volcano and look down into the water, a lake about a kilometer across. Learn about the agriculture that was conducted within the rim and what is being grown there by the local population. Learn about the sources of fresh...More

Absolutely awesome crater! The colors are beautiful. You could see much of the island from the view from the top. It gives you a good idea of how the island was formed. Don't miss!
