- fartoomanyusersLondon, United Kingdom438 contributionsInsta HeavenWe visited in the early evening ... and the lovely soft light brought out the Instagram people ... although maybe they are a constant feature of Sidi Bou Said ! It really is a stunning town on top of the hill with views out through the beautiful buildings to sea almost everywhere you look. The guidebooks list it as a top place to visit from Tunis, and they aren't wrong!Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten March 27, 2024
- mel7155Singapore, Singapore1,344 contributionsMy second favourite place in Tunis .I visited four sites in Tunis - this is my second favourite after the Bardo Museum . I didn’t quite enjoy Carthage or the medina . I enjoyed Sidi Boudi Said as it had a very relaxed atmosphere and the architect of the buildings are great . I lived the white and blue buildings but do note that they were all painted blue only very recently . They were previously painted white and yellow . It is a high income area so this is the pm’s d where the rich and well heeled will spent their time and money . If you are staying for meals- highly recommend you eat the seafood as the fish is freshly caught or harvested in any of the restaurants. Certainly a place to go for its unique site .Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten April 1, 2024

The white and blue buildings are just lovely. It is clean and full of places to shop and eat, as well as some hotels. Even the train station is pretty.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 29, 2024

But it also has this feel of "tourist trap". Most people wandering the streets are tourists and all shops & restaurants cater for them.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten May 20, 2024
- Abovetheclouds2,222 contributionsBeautiful.Beautiful beyond words. Sidi Bou Saïd is very pretty. Traditional and reminded me of being back in Mykonos or Santorini but with a Maghrebi and Andalusian influence. Walk, explore and get lost in the cobblestone alleyways. Go further than the main touristy part and you will discover little hidden gems.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten May 26, 2024
- pfefmeisterSan Francisco, California4,374 contributionsGreat Side TripWe visited from the cruise ship port. The taxis at the port wanted 80-100 euros for a 3 hour tour. We walked outside the gate and found a nice gentleman who spoke English for 40 euros. He was delightful and waited for us as we walked around the village for about 2 hours. I loved this place - though crowded with tourists. Many shops selling similar items, but, if you look closely, you'll find some gems. Loved the blue and white ala Santorini.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 29, 2024

Then again it is also a tourist shopping mile, and everybody is trying to pull you in to buy souvenirs which 90% are the same across all shops, so look up and walk through some side roads, to absorb the beauty.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 28, 2024

We rent a car for our trip in Tunis and the last day we decided to visit Sidi Bou Said. We parked the car on the road where you have to pay to the parking machines. Credit cards were not accepted so we had to make change in a store nereby our car. The whole process took us 5 min. When we returned we saw a small paper in Arabic (the only thing i understood is that it was from the Municipality) and the wheel of our car was locked. We asked help from a local guy and he called to the number mentioned on the paper. After a few min, 3 guys came up in an old car (Datsun) where they refused to unlock the wheel unless we give them 30 dinars!! We paid them and they unlocked it. They seem to be something like a mafia for tourists in the area, please be aware and extra careful if you rent a car. Shame on them. They ruined our day.

This is a must visit beautiful town. It is mainly a picturesque blue and white but look out for the yellow doors also. There is a museum on the left as you walk uphill that is worth a visit whilst you are there.

the first time I visited, it was in the evening but i quickly left. there were way too many people for my liking
woke up the next morning and came back. what a contrast. it was a much more enjoyable experience since most of the town has not woken up yet. or tourists just havent made their way in yet from Tunis.
it will be a 2h visit if you also include the time for the two museums nearby.

A very nice town with a lot of tourist-centered activities. You could walk around this place in an afternoon and still want to do it again. Home to the iconic white and blue colored houses and shops. Dont forget to try the Bambolini!

Sidi Bou Saïd is a gem. A place that is different from all other places in Tunisia, but not only in Tunisia. Already on the approach, we notice the enchanting atmosphere where white-blue houses and cobbled narrow streets open the artistic spirit in us and overwhelm us with wonderful feelings of satisfaction. That's why Sidi Bou Saïd has a reputation as a town of artists. Sidi Bou Saïd is named after a 13th-century Sufi saint Abu Said al-Baji, it was previously was small fisching village called Jabal el-Menar. Its distinctive architecture is a mix of the Ottoman and the Andalusian, a result of the influx of Spanish Muslims in the 16th century. For the French, the fishing village was a perfect depiction of the Orientalism romanticized by Europeans in the 19th century. Sidi Bou Saïd is a charming town on a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean, with al fresco cafes, Tunisian eateries, and small art galleries. One of the significant and beautiful places where artists, bohemians, painters, writers, actors, directors, poets, sculptors gladly gathered, socialized, exchanged views, messages, dreams and .........Their favorite meeting place was in Café des Nattes or Kahoua El Alia. A special place. Café des Nattes is one of the emblematic places of Sidi Bou Saïd that should not be missed because of its importance and its beauty. It is located in the very center of the city. Sitting on mats, smoking hookah and sipping mint tea and eating delicious cookies is how you experience Café des Nattes and Sidi Bou Saïd. The reputation of Café des Nattes comes from the beginning of the 20th century, when students and artists inhabited its terrace, several big names made it famous: Simone de Beauvoir, André Gide, Paul Klee, Johnny Hallyday, Georges Bernanos, french philosopher Michel Foucault to name just a few for examples. The Moorish style, with high stairs, white walls contrasting with the blue of the woodwork, in keeping with the rest of Sidi Bou Saïd, makes it a particularly pleasant place.
