Overview

Jardín de Cactus was the last intervention work César Manrique performed in Lanzarote. The artist from Lanzarote could see beyond how run down the ancient rofera was. Roferas were the quarries that raids are taken from to create a very particular home for cactaceae flowers from all over he world. Surrounded by the largest cactus plantation of the island, dedicated to crops of cochineal insect, a product of great financial relevance in Lanzarote in the 19th Century. Jardín de Cactus has around 4,500 specimens of 450 different species, of 13 different families of cactus from the five continents. The green shade of the plants stands out against the blue sky and the dark volcano creating a harmonious explosion of colour that impresses visitors. The only sounds that break the peace and quiet that prevails, are singing birds and boozing insects, enjoying their very own oasis.

Great credit to Cesar Manrique for putting together this collection of cacti from around the world. From miniatures to giants, many of which you cant get close enough to to touch and feel making you realise the diversity of this type of plant.

Cacti can be seen all over Lanzarote growing freely, but this garden lays out some great specimens - more cacti than I ever knew existed! Entrance is relatively cheap and I recommend buying a ticket that combines entrance to other attractions such as Timanfaya National...More

Amazing conversion of an old quarry by Manrique. This is genuinely one of the finest gardens I've ever visited. Almost all of the hundreds of cacti and succulents from around the world are labelled with their origins. It is very skillfully laid out, and around...More

We visited last week and were delighted by the variety of the cacti and the beautiful way the gardens were laid out. The wee windmill was an added bonus. Most of all, the views out across the gardens and up to the mountain/volcanoes were excellent....More

It was amazing to see all these different cacti from all over the world. The platform for the presentation was really interesting as well.

I visited yesterday. I would never have believed the different types of cactus. Everyone is unique. Lots of footpaths to explore. The views are something special and especially if you go up to the top of the windmill. Certainly worth a visit.

A visionary concept, fabulous design and extremely well maintained. Each cactus/group of cacti was fascinating in itself but also complemented each other beautifully. Nothing else to add that hasn't been said elsewhere. For me, a holiday highlight.

Cost around 6 euro per person to get in, a great range of cactus. Wear comfortable shoes as the paths you walk along are very uneven, it's not a huge place to walk around though but worth a visit if you like cactus.
